Learn to watch a prizefight for the boxing ability displayed and you will begin to appreciate Wlad's dominance as a heavyweight champion. He moves laterally very well for such a huge man and can sustain it like in the Thompson fight for several rounds. He blocks punches beautifully with his fists like old school fighters; Wlad rarely gets hit clean these days. His jab is picture perfect and he hooks off the jab with good power and great accuracy. He shows extreme strength in clinches often wearing his opponent out with this technique even when the other fighter is bigger than himself. Again check out the Thompson fight. He only throws his best weapon the overhand right when he knows it will land flush and that's generally the beginning of the end for his adversary. Don't be so quick to dismiss what Wlad does as boring. He routinely displays awesome boxing technique and terrific athletic ability especially for such a tall, huge man. Most huge guys look like lumbering oafs in the sport of boxing. Wlad is a rare exception. Enjoy him while you can.

I appreciate Wlad's skills, and I especially appreciate the way he overcame adversity in his career. Lesser men would have folded after devastating losses to Sanders and Brewster, but Wlad stuck it out, got better, and more than redeemed himself in my eyes.

However, he's not exactly the most exciting fighter I've ever seen, and I won't be the least bit surprised if Wlad-Chagaev is a snooze fest, even if it ends with a knockout.

    Let the haters hate.

Wlad has takenn out Byrd, Breswter, Sultan, and Peter.

Chag has taken out Valuev and Ruiz.

There just is no doubt that the winner of this one is the true champion of the world, with a new lineage established.

Haye is a great crusier who has proved next to nothing at heavy. Let him win a couple of meaningful fights first.

Chagaev's victories over those two were certainly debatable.

I strongly disagree. The fact that this fight is 'establishing a new lineage' according to Ring Magazine is a joke, IMO. Almost as bad as the new lineage they started after Vitali beat Sanders.

Agreed, and even still, Wlad-Haye was a much more intriguing match-up than this.

Well, maybe I just enjoy watching a terrific boxer put on a boxing clinic against another fighter, especially when Wlad's opponent has some good talent himself. To dominate other huge men like Wlad routinely does and has done for years now is unusual. It's nearly four years since his defeat of Sam Peter and noone has really competed with him since. I enjoy watching a master boxer-puncher like Wlad reduce other fighters with terrific, extensive amateur backgrounds to terrified, confused victims looking for a way out by mid-rounds. He is in his prime right now and most of the boxing heavy's are clearly scared of him. Props to Chagaev for stepping up to the plate.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy watching Wlad fight, but at the same time, it would sometimes be nice to see him do a little more, especially in the eyes of a casual fan.

I have a lot of friends who aren't that interested in boxing but are always asking me about Pacquiao-Mayweather. When I tried to tell these same people about the Wlad-Haye fight (before it was canceled, obviously), none of them had any interest in seeing it.

Contrast that with Tyson's popularity back in the 80s. Wlad just doesn't resonate that type of excitment, and it's east to understand why. Mind you, this coming from one of the few people who thoroughly enjoyed Hopkins-Calzaghe.

Anyway, I'm not expecting much in his fight with Chagaev, but I do hope I am wrong.

    :good

it was Wlads call but of course it'll be a dull affair , Chagaev isnt an attacking fighter so he'll eat jabs till he falls over.

Wlad cares about winning , sadly not about exciting fights. I'm not going to have a go at him but he heading the right way to having a legacy hat I fear he wil look back upon and think , "there is something missing"

:lol:I loved the Hopkins, Calzaghe fight too. I thought I was the only one. Well, maybe Wlad has to take some chances and just try to blow some of his opponents out in spectacular fashion to please the casual fans. Maybe, he'll do it to Ruslan but he'll probably just put on another clinic. Noone will ever compete with Mike Tyson for pure excitement. That guy was a human pitbull and was one crazy dude outside the ring. I doubt we'll see his like again.

Chagaev is the best heavyweight not named Klitschko. David Haye is barely a top10. I love how people speak nonsense though... If it won't be a tought fight, it'll only proove how much the brothers stand out in the division. Haye is much easier: he has a so terrible balance and defense, he'll lose in 2-3 rounds with about 20% chance of landing a lucky punch. A weak chin and a possibility of a single lucky punch doesn't make a fight tough.
