Mayweather, Mosely, Berto, Mayweather again, Khan, Martinez, Williams, and Margorito just for fun. This would put him in the top 5.

He could actually pull this off if he dedicated 3 more years to the sport. If he gets by Mayweather he's half way home.

I think he'd have to take the middleweight title from Pavlik to truely be considered the "Greatest fighter of all time"

It's hard business becoming the best fighter in the history of boxing.

    Good luck Pac!

Hence, "etc..". He would need to do more, but I'm not seriously going to entertain the question at the moment. I listed a few "must-haves" for his resume. You fill in the blanks.

That just isn't true. Guys like Mayweather and Mosley would have been top names in any era. The level of competition IS there.

Now that would be impressive. but what if reigned at 154 for just as long....#1?

  7. Even this wouldn't do. If you consider how this might play out, there's a bunch rationalizations that are inevitable:

Williams - not that big of a deal, really.
Kelly Pavlik - A sup-par MW champ in many peoples view (not mine). Less impressive than beating La Motta.
Hopkins - is OLD. I feel sorry for whoever does finally beat him because they will get no credit.

Those feats would be impressive but when you juxtepose them with what SRR was doing week in week out - Fighting SMW's and LHW's as a Welter, and good ones - they lose.

Overall, it's just not gonna happen.

Yeah I'll admit that is true and by beating those and maybe a few more he can crest top 5. But when trying to get number 1 people would be hard pressed and I don't even necessarily think its because they are so infinitely better then boxers today its just people want to keep those legends alive.

I mean I'm a major Pac fan but I'd find it hard to see how he would become #1 ATG. Top 20 good chance already there, top 10 could see before his career ends, top 5 is pushing it but possible, and top 3 let alone top spot just seems almost impossible.

At welter I don't think so. Floyd's best weight was 130, and imo he's the best ever at that weight, and also you have to remember that this isn't a prime
    Mosley we're talking about.

Boxing is entirely different from that sports mentioned. The main reason that is very hard for modern boxers to surpass ATG fighters are the number of fights being fought by boxers todays and the too much boxing politics that is primarily driven by financial consideration.

The most recent version of Mosley that decimated Margarito would have made noise in any Welterweight division in history. In what era would he have been worse than Top 5, or Top 10 at absolute least?

Mayweather is a Top 5 guy minimum in any era in history, anywhere from 130lbs to 147lbs. While I would favour Leonard and Hearns over him at 147lbs, by no means is it an easy night. I agree he's the best in history at 130lbs, but he's no slouch beyond that either.

Yep, very difficult. Mayweather would be Pacquiao's best win by a country mile and is a win he MUST have if he wants to ever enter an argument for best of all time.
