What people? the average guy on the street will only know him as the guy who fought the big show and de la hoya. hardcore fans will still respect his skills even if he didnt always fight the best.

You could say it best this way: Floyd Mayweather seldom to never brought people off of their seats.

In 10 years no one will care that he beat Corrales. The fact is he never beat a great fighter and knocked him out. What someone said in a post earlier about " Floyd who?" is about right. Baldomir, Castillo, Judah do not get you to be remembered that well, and add to that no come from behind win or great fight. Who will care? Floyd has to come back and beat someone like Mosley and then fight both Cotto and Pacman. Those three would do him well. If he just wants a good career and respect he should retire now, but if he wants a good legacy he needs much more than he has. To be honest Mosley has a legacy and could retire and he is remembered much more than Floyd.

    Top 5 at 130lbs all-time, at worst
    Multi-division titlist
One of the slickest, and most skilled fighters of his generation
Could have been even greater had he faced, and likely defeated, fighters like Cotto and Margarito.

Floyd will always be talked about in a rather very dim light. His name will constantly be brought up though because of his undefeated record.

How many undefeated fighters are brought up out in the limelight again once another undefeated fighter goes on to keep his 0 intact...then its like "Well Jim...there hasnt been too many that keep that 0 intact...heres a look at some of the past fighters who have."

It'll be about as relevant to Ottke and Calzaghe. He'll be a bit above both because of his appearances in more divisions, but his wins are three levels above Ottke and one step above Calzaghe.

Marciano will be the only undefeated fighter that will matter...Mayweather's will slowly sink...

Problem is that Floyd had the challenges at welterweight and didn't take them. He retired before he could beat the great guys. All fighters can retire before they lose. That doesn't mean they are great. Marciano as great as some think he is, didn't fight on and does have his undefeated record. I am not sure he could have done well with Patterson. And Marciano vs. Liston might not have come out in Rocky's favor.
