I hope you are right, I wish I was as confident as you Fred!!! But it will tell us if he is still one of the top dogs, as well as how much the Margo fight took out of him, if he is impressive than Fred is right about him being the top WW.
Doubt he will show any new type of aggression, he made a career fighting the way he does so don't expect anything different in this one especially when it's obvious by now the guy HAS to wait sometimes to avoid running out of gas. Judah wasn't doing THAT bad against him, he was landing on him though was getting pummeled on in the process and it wasn't one-sided when they stopped it either but clearly going Clottey's way. Problem here is if he hurts Cotto he NEEDS to be consistent with his punches and have some decent finishing skills, he lacks those and Cotto knows how to survive when hurt and always fires back with serious bombs. I'm expecting it to be a slow start, a few exchanges here and there with mostly Cotto winning them. Expect Cotto to go in this one looking outscore Clottey and bank a UD. This is a perfect fight where Clottey's stamina, punching power and skills will all be tested. Just an overrall test for him which I can't see him pass. He hasn't done anything special against any special opponent for me to pick him in this one, Cotto has a UD victory over Mosley.
Good post. Cotto's recuperative powers are literally like something out of a video game. I love that about him, the only thing missing is a little power bar over his head. Mosley also didn't press Cotto early because he thought he'd be able to outbox him. When he finally started winning rounds, it was by coming forward and being physical. Clottey knows (or should know) damn well that his best chance is to get inside and make the fight rugged, and unlike Mosley, he's got the Margarito fight as a blueprint. Maybe he can follow it, maybe he can't. :smoke
Right. Mosley said he was surprised how fluid Miguel was. He said he never expected him to be as fast or as strong as he was. By the time Mosley realized that he was fighting the wrong fight, Cotto had piled up a big enough lead that he could just ride out the storm and get to the judges. I had it 7-5 Cotto but I've also had it a draw and a 7-5 decision for Mosley as well. It was a great fight and I'd love to see a bunch of replays of it.
It was an excellent fight, technical but still very dramatic. That point in either the 10th or the 11th when the "Mosley!" chant went up is one of those moments I think you only get in boxing. I scored it 7-5 Cotto the first time I saw it and every time since.
Clottey will do his thing and try to outbox him only to end up losing. Mosley made that mistake and found out it's a mistake late in the fight, that's when he got aggressive, hurt Cotto but couldn't follow up enough to take advantage of it as he got tired his self. Clottey, in my opinion, has terrible stamina and really can't afford to go in there using an aggressive style. Watch out for Cotto's body punches to hurt him bad as the fight goes.
It won't tell me so much about Cotto then it will about Clottey. I still feel he's overrated here. I expect some close rounds early and then Cotto will break him down.
I am not concern about any effect from the Margarito's fight. I am more worry about his team and his game plan. But I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Good point about the team. Unless I'm mistaken, Cotto's team is essentially a novice group outside of Miguel Diaz. Then again many of us were predicting that Manny Steward to be the deciding factor over the big fight inexperience of Lowe. Sometimes the fighters make the trainers.
