Alex throws very educated combinations and carries more power than most think. Those second and third punches might make things interesting. Wlad might get in more of a shoot out.

I agree with this but I think if Alex is going to have any chance his condition and work rate have to be extremely high and closer to the 220lbs than the 235, speed, stamina, work-rate and power combo's can make it interesting and he had good stamina vs Byrd and Chambers but less in recent fights.

Conditioning and work rate and pressure can make this a hard fight for Vlad but can Alex summon the training and discipline to make him the force he can be.

I think it's far too early too judge. Who knows, Povetkin may rule the division for quite some time when the Klitschko brothers have gone, or he may turn out to be a bit of a hype job. Only time will tell, which is why I don't like themlikes of Mendoza saying 'Povetkin is in his prime'. He's 33 years old and his physical abilities have probably been on the slide for a few years now. Fair enough he had a solid amateur career, but he has only fought in 26 professional fights against pretty lacklustre competition. Let's not throw stupid statements out in the open because for all we know, Povetkin may have much much more to show us in years to come

Seamus , your boy didn't fancy his chances and pulled a duck. What sort of legacy does that leave him?

The word is out on him. Its over.

    Marciano punches his ticket.

Povetkin's style is a young man's style based on work rate and speed. He will never be a good jabber or defensive guy. I do not think he'll be on top in 3-4 years unless he losses at least 10 pounds which isn't likely. Povetkin time to be sucessfull on the highest levels is now.

What do you think of Povetkin's legs?

I sure don't see him slipping many jabs from this guy. Not with that defense. And he does register punches when he gets hit, a little more than I'd like to see in this particular matchup.

Do you think Kostya had him trying to parry the jab? I don't think that will work and he's out of range to punch back and off balance if he does throw. My guess is they might try to have Alex spring in with a quick 2 step. Or maybe it has to be 3 steps the way Wlad moves his feet in there.

This means supreme conditioning and excellent upper body movement for 3 minutes per round. But I think Alex needs top shelf legs to position himself in that one small area where he can fire off his combos. I haven't seen a defining fight of Povetkin's where I thought his footwork, and being quick on his feet, was on the magnitude of say very good. Man, does he ever need to move quick on those feet and keep that balance and hands up.

If he is on the outside of that small area, he is in real danger against this opponent and will be hit flush with straight punches.

One way or another, one of these guys' skin won't hold up. One of them gets cut or swollen and Povetkin has about no chance if he gets busted up--and that jab can do it by itself.

Povektin has fast feet and fast hands when he's on form. One of his best tools is a counter left hook and overhand right. Thats a big problem for Wlad who can be timed by Povektin. Angles and counter punching will beat straght 1-2 shots.

Kostya has many boxing secerts on developing fitness and power, im sure he'll devise a strategy to exploit his weaknessess and take out Wlad. The difference here is that Povektin is game and skilled enough to carry it through. Chisora presented a similar stlye match-up and they didn't like that fight.

The fly in the ointment for Kostya was his defense against the tall guys. It really magnified the shortcomings. That elbow out style of his saw Phillips coming right over the top time and time again.

As for this fight, I disagree wholeheartedly with your assessments. Wladimir has the size and the better footwork of the 2. And he's much harder to hit than Povetkin is.

The guy walking the tightrope here is Alex Povetkin, not Wlad Klitschko. The margin of error Povetkin can have in this fight is almost minimal. Lots of pressure in multiple ways and I sure would like to see him slip the jab better.

Exactly what does he do to take it away or nullify it?

The lazy jab he sticks out in the air? That might work against tall stiff bums but it gives Povektin a window to come under or to the side of it. Valauev will teach Kostya a trick or two. Wlads money is made, he's living the soft life with his little girlfriend and is getting married soon. He trained like it was a fight to the death against absoulte no hoper Pianeta. He hasn't proved he can beat elite level guys in a very long time. He's there for the taking.
