What will WBA chumpion Mikkel Kessler's remaining career amount to?

"Kessler can be beaten. Everyone could see that last year. I will be in top shape and will make the most of this opportunity.” Danilo Haussler

Kessler has obviously now lost his aura of invincibility but how will this affect the rest of his boxing career? I never saw the fight against Sartisan so if someone (sean hopefully) could impartially tell me what happened now that the dust has settled, I'd appreciate it.

Calzaghe's controlled pressure was enough to throw Kessler off his game for long periods of their fight, I just wonder if a pressure fighter is Kessler's nemisis. MK seems to like controlling the pace of the fight himself and seemed out of his depth when he wasn't in his comfort zone. He can't fight effectively on the back foot, but is Haussler the right type of boxer to expose this again? I think not. I actually think Pavlicks might even be too much for Kessler unless Mikkel could keep knocking the American down. I couldn't commit to a firm pick for that fight - I think it's the best fight to be made from 160-175. Compelling.

Like any professional fighter, Haussler is believing he can win but we all know that he is completely out of his league here. Kessler's gonna give him a sound beating.

Sartison was completely and utterly dominated.

Don't know that I agree that pressure beats Mikkel- he handled Andrade pretty handily to say the least. I think it was just Joe being Joe- he is such an unorthodox fighter. And smart. Despite all this, he certainly had his moments in the fight, it was just his cluelessness as to how to handle Joe's change of tactics in (I think?) Rds 8-11. I would have taken the odds on him in a rematch.

I really don't see anyone beating him at SM, personally.

Kessler seems content to never come to the US and establish himself here. He must make really good money. He's fighting another nobody.

I also think Pavlik/Kessler is one of the best fights that could be made in the near future.

I have one question about Kessler: What made him so tenative against Calzaghe? Was it the hand injury, or does this kid really have a problem with courage and the will to win? If the problem was courage and the will to win, Pavlik would mow his ass down. However, I'm willing to give MK the benefit of the doubt, and assume the hand injury affected him more than he let on before the Calzaghe fight.

I really think that Pavlik/Kessler would pivot around the jabbing contest. If Pavlik could establish the double jab, you know he'll find a home for the right hand, and Kessler gets sparked. If MK could hold Kelly at bay with his jab, he could box his way to a pretty clear UD.

I realize that the above is a bit of an over simplification, but as of right now I see this as a 50/50 fight, and a very intriguing match-up. None of Pavlik's best wins came over really good orthodox boxers. On the other hand; I don't think Kessler has ever been in the ring with an offensive machine like Pavlik.

The top 3 items on the resume

    1) L vs. Calzaghe

    2)W vs. Andrade

    3)W vs. Mundine

    That would be sad.

i have seen all haussler`s televised fights.

seen about 10 fights of kessler

in all seriousness the only chance haussler has ion this fight on haussler`s home turf in germany is to lead with his head or get cut from a straight right early in the fight and claim it was caused by a headbutt as he did v catley and get the fight called off and declared a no contest.

for those who have not seen hausler, he is short for a 168 fighter, boxes square on behind a turtle shell guard, pumping out the occasional jab, right lead.

he has little power/is a decent trier/has decent talent/is willing to get up from knockdowns./

what he does not have is great feet/great offense /great variety.

kessler is going to have a field day from range hitting through/around and often the haussler guard , until haussler comes out of his shellecking and leaves himself open to full blooded shots.

haussler has no chance of the win, no matter what the ref does/what the crowd does to help and ko wise.

kessler will jab to start, up his pace until around 6 or 7 the german corner pulls him out.

as to sartison fight, i said long before the fight took place sartison was a much underated and talented fighter with good skills/good rythem and was not your typical east suropean style but was relaxed and flowing in the ring.

he caught kessler in the first with a long looping right high on the head , and kessler lost his equilibrium and stumbled back and was hurt for about 4 seconds.

after that the fight was competitive with sartison moving/boxing while staying close to punching range and had some sucesses but was outhustled and outboxed with kessler doing enough in all rounds from 2 to take the fight wearing sartison doen bit by bit to the stoppage.

it was just a case of people not knowing who sartison was and how talented a fighter he is.

not an easy fight for anyone as i said in a thread about him.

on the other hand i saw kessler`s compatriot larson 1 month after he fought ottke , fight haussler and larson made haussler look what he is .

a very protected fighter, larson did what he wanted, when he wanted and haussler had absolutley no answer.

kessler will do the same and i doubt haussler will come much out of his shell, despite his rhetoric .

outside chance haussler lasts the distance if haussler does not come to fight at all but fights the whole fight to survive.

if haussler comes to win, he will get a beatdown.

Oh just ignore that guy... he'll twist anything around to try and discredit Calzaghe somehow. He's about as predictable as Pavlick's fighting style... relentless but the same thing over and over again.

It still had a lot to do with heart, because he only came out swinging for the fences in the last round, when the fight was over on the cards, Judah v Mayweather style. There was nothing to lose here, as he knew Joe was playing it safe for the UD.

Before that, he completely lacked the balls to try and bully Calzaghe out of his rhythm and make something happen.

I do think his hand injury impacted his performance a bit though.

Stop calling him the WBA champ, he's not. He's simply holding a trinket that only serves to allow the real champ to be more flexible in defending his unified belts. Kessler's trinket gives him no leverage. No one gives a **** about fighting for that thing. He'll just have to bide his time until Calzaghe gives up his belt.

he did not look too impressive against sartison. im not sure how good sartison was supposed to be or how favored to do in this fight. but took kessler 12 rds to ko him and he was hurt and staggered in rd1 by sartison. fight was pretty boring too.
