Wlad should do the following, beat Ibragimov, take Povetkin while he is green, beat Peter and Chagaev.. He will then be recgonized as a great champion. :bbb
Well if Povetkin's camp still want to put him forward for the fight then Wlad will have to face him after he has beaten Iggy. He should then target a third fight in 2008 against Chagaev.
Personally I just want to see him tested. I'd also like to see him attempt to unify the other titles if he can.
I think Wlad should go on his own version of the "Bum of the Month" tour. Only, these bums would actually be some ranked contenders (they may be ranked, but they pose little threat). He should fight every month (on TV), or maybe every other month, and just kncok these chumps out. All the while, throwing in some unification bouts. String together enough title defenses and victories, he will capture good press and the hearts of boxing fans around the world.
Excellent plan but in this day & age of complicated contracts & TV deals it would never happen sadly.
First Wlad has to beat Sultan and he hasn't done that yet. If he is sucessfull, than he will have the choice of fighting either Thompson or Povetkin, vacate one of the belts, or pursue another unification fight with Chagaev, who might be interested on the money of such a fight rather than risking losing his belt back to Valuev. With his brother Vitali on the line to fight for the WBC belt I don't think he will touch that. Now that Povetkin won the mandatory rights I guess Wlad has to fight him in 6 months, right? Thompson is waiting for quite a lot of time, so Wlad will have to deal with him before Povetkin or just vacate the belt, I assume. Now, if Wlad gets lucky and gets another unification fight with Ruslan, he can push his mandatories for later, right? Did I get a correct read of the rules here?
The division is not that bad anymore, **** if anything its clearing up a bit, you just saw Povetkin is a exceptionally fast dude with high workrate and good skill, Eddie Chambers is very fast, and a hell of a boxer, theyre both young, and I really want to see if Chambers learns from this loss... Peter was underprepared for McCline, dont bet on that **** again.. Don't know much about Chagaev but from the talk hes alright? Than Ibragimov, kind of similar to Povetkin..(again this is from what IVE seen...not much of these 2) its not that the division is that bad, i think it is more of how good Wladimir is, and it just helps people discredit him... Or the old-school nuthuggers who think Ken Norton is head and shoulders over the contenders of today... After seeing last nights fight by the way, i don't think Povet is gonna pull the upset.. Like the other dude said, Larry Holmes and Tyson can do it but Wlad can't? It just doesnt make sense to me..(2 of my favorite HWs as well now that i think about it...rofl)
I really don't know if Wlad can beat Sasha and don't go into shock rightaway or create shockwaves back in my direction if you please. Wlad has excellent footwork and that George Foreman's kinda power-jab can keep Povetkin away and occupied but he was in tremendous trouble in that 5th round from Peter's wide and clumsy powershots... Povetkin has a whole lot more of accuracy and polished skills and has about the same damaging punching impact as Peter. I wouldn't count him out in that fight - it's Wlad to get there now and Iggy is no walk in the park either... I'll keep my cool and some thoughts to myself until it's time.
If anyone actually doubts that Wlad defeats Iggy, well yeah. Iggy fought a DRAW with Ray Austin, who Wlad beat with ONE HAND.
Povetkin hits no where near as hard as Samuel Peter. He's a better overall puncher when you factor in variety, technique, output, and snap, but Peter definitely has the edge in power. Anyways, in regards to the thread, Wladimir should face Povetkin, Thompson, Chagaev, Peter, and a couple current up and comers (Haye, Solis, Boytsov, etc) later in his career. Unifying all 4 belts, defending them, and taking on the most worthy of challengers would warrant ATG status at heavyweight.
