What would a dominant win over Pavlik do for your rating of Calzaghe?

Simple question, another win over an undefeated young opponent on his already stacked resume. For me it's just that, a win over another undefeated young, decent opponent at age 36, but not a legacy win or anything.

If anything, just more a show of his superiority at the weight range in the current class, even past it, giving thought that a prime Calzaghe is probably a H2H demon right under Roy Jones.... I believe this already, but this just provides another notch in the case for it despite all of the opposition.

I am pleased the fight is being pursued instead of shot old Roy. Pavlik's not the best fighter around, or even a serious challenge, but he's a hell of a lot more than Roy right now and holds the undisputed MW crown. Something like Undisputed vs. Undisputed really has a nice ring to it.

Nothing. Pavlik's style is made for Calzaghe. Its the worst style matchup for Pavlik out there. Calzaghe would beat him easy unless he got tired.

It would be very similar to Floyd's win over Hatton.

Well, let's turn this on its head. If you think it is a nothing win for Calzaghe, you must believe it is a career win for Pavlik?

Thats about fair. I look at what Calzaghe does and what Pavlik does. Pavlik comes in straight and cant do anything unless its behind a jab. I do think Kelly might get a knockdown b/c Joe is going to underestimate his power early.

You know, this is a very fair statement, perhaps I'm just getting over excited because it's not shot ass Roy coming up next in all hopes.

However, I do rate Pavlik as a better fighter than Hatton. I rate Hatton as nothing substantial, when not employing an illegal style, which he has wasnt allowed to do against Floyd and rightfully so. So I may re-think this statement above.

And by no means am I legitimising Pavlik as anything other than a solid B level. Not a B+, a solid B level, it's just Hatton without his illegal foulfest style is a B- fighter and has been on the decline since the Collazo debacle.

It depends on what Pavlik does after the loss. Just like Calzaghe's resume depends somewhat on what Kessler does for the rest of his career. If both go on to do great things, it helps obviously. But as it stands right now, i think Pavlik would definitely be a very good name on his resume.

Pavlik is the smaller man, Calzaghe has everything to lose nothing to gain in a win ovr Kelly. Pavlik is the only winner either way. he will still remain Middleweight Champion even in a loss.

This wouldn't do much for Calzaghe for legacy to you guys? I think it would give him an excellent boost to beat the unified middleweight champ who is undefeated and in his prime.

As far as today I would put JC at #2 p4p (he is currently #3 for me) and possibly #1 if Fraud decides to re-match Hatton instead of fight Cotto

Of course, defeating a top elite, by all intents no longer a Supernatural, but still a top elite for Pavlik would be a hell of a career win, just like Mayorga's over Forrest.

I knew someone would say that. And that's just not true. If anything, Pavlik is naturally bigger than Calzaghe. He's got the frame to easily make 175 in a year or so. I don't think size is an issue. But critics can always say, "Pavlik was much smaller". It's unwarranted.

 Similar to Floyds win over Hatton??:rofl

Fellas, fellas, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats a horrible comparison. LOOK AT THE FIGHTERS FRAMES AND STYLES:yep

Amsterdam? Its a very significant win and JC could essentially be the real Champ from 160-175 at the same time. That's a HELL OF A LEGACY FEATHER 4 the WInner.

I respect Calzaghe as it is. Beat Pavlik? It sky rockets. He could then take care of Dawson or Jones and RETIRE a TRUE ATG and highly rated SMW.

Seeing Calzaghe as P4P #1 universally on all lists would just thrill me as a longtime fan to no end, seriously. It's been 10 years following this guy and you don't even want to know what it was like in 2000-2005 for the general opinion of him.

I'll do a Scottish jig dance on youtube.com if Calzaghe is ever ranked P4P #1 by all sources.
