What would a dominant win over Pavlik do for your rating of Calzaghe?

Well, used to do that kind of stuff years ago. But, I was a behind the scenes type guy. Did work with a couple of people that became pros. Ed O'Neil of "Married with Children" fame, and Ed Jupp. Lesser know, somewhat above "carries spear" but not much......

My current profession does require a good bit of acting though. Real world stuff, "No mam, that price is in line with everyone else....... " ;)

    A "dominant" win?

I doubt it elevate him more than he is already for me but I appreciate that it would raise his status high in the States. For me Pavlik will be too slow and straight up for Calzaghes movement and fast hands, he'll have trouble backing him up.

What this fight does do, for me, even just accepting the fight ... is cement the guys credibility as having no fear of going up against the percieved best young fighters around his weight class ... Lacy, Kessler, Pavlik. I won't be surprised to see a Dawson fight and then RJJ to finish off if he passes Pavlik.

It puts paid to any talk of Joe being a ducker.

Pavlik would be the ideal way for Calzaghe to finish his career. A quality, unbeaten fighter who does the basics very well, but doesn't do anything extraordinary. Calzaghe wouldn't have to go looking for him, and I believe wins a comfortable UD.

it wouldn't change my rating of calzaghe much, but in terms of his legacy with noob boxing fans / anti-euros / boxrec junkies, it would mean a whole lot

why? the haters always say, "who the hell did Calzaghe beat in their primes?"

The answer of course is Mikkel Kessler, but then the haters reply

"well who the hell did Kessler beat?"

But if Calzaghe beats Pavlik in his prime, then though its far from his best win in my eyes, in the eyes of the boxrec junky / hater, this is hard to criticize. Pavlik is prime and has beaten Taylor twice, who beat Hopkins twice and drew with Winky

A dominant win over Pavlik would be an amazing accomplishment by Calzaghe. Pavlik won't let that happen though.

I meant in the ring. Pavlik will take the fight. I don't know if Calzaghe really wants the fight now though, we'll find out after Pavlik vs Lockett. I still think we'll see Calzaghe vs Jones first.

It would give him an argument for being the best British fighter of all-time and it would probably make Pavlik the only fighter to ever fight consecutive opponents from Wales. ;)

word. pavlik is slow and does not posess great footwork. he only won the second taylor fight b/c taylor has horrible stamina. Pavlik will not be able to push calzaghe around the way he has with almost all of the other fighters he has gone against b/c Calzaghe can MOVE

I don't know but every fighter brings something different to the table. Calzaghe dominating Pavlik for an entire fight is something I have to see to believe.

I think you missed the point. Pavlik will have no choice but be dominated. Calzaghe is too clever, too quick, and has shown the ability to make adjustments to get the job done no matter who the opponent is.

In saying that, I don't believe he would be required to dig deep against Pavlik. Kelly is a good fighter and what he does, he does well. However, he doesn't bring anything to the table Calzaghe hasn't seen before. And in my opinion, his style plays right into the hands of Joe. An easy UD for Calzaghe.

I am still not convinced it will. I would not be surprised if it was a tactic to show Jones that Calzaghe has other options. Geared toward Jones dropping his financial demands.

Pavlik is the better fight though, without doubt.
