What would a HW boxer from this era have to do to surpass or be on the same level as Ali?

Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee while....

Staring down the Federal Government and world opinion while putting your entire livelihood on the line for the sake of the voices unheard, lose the best years of your career, and still make people invoke your name anytime the discussion got around to the "Greatest."

To be fair Peralta was a fighting machine with a ton of experience that could give any top heavyweight a hard time. He’d be good enough to be a top 10 heavyweight today as well.

This is a bit crazy but true. That point actually slipped my mind bc im TRYING to educate other era fans ,it usually falls on deaf ears ,but that simple statement is 100 %. Very hard around my own U.S machine ,its unfortunate bc our country holds the sport back and manipulates the sport ,it should really be more recognized globally here and many casual fans still think its dead bc they don't know outside fighters not from the U.S. ..maybe most don't want to ? But its a real competitive era in all weight classes more then ever really.

Sonny Conto is the best U.S prospect so once he gets headline fights will be interesting what the general consensus of boxing is then .

If someone chased me down by my own actions I wouldn't hide behind BANNING them. So that probably disqualifies me along with telling like it is a little to much at times and I wouldn't team up with fellow mods as a cusion either to support banning posters when they prove you wrong ,for one I cant stand 1/4 of them on here and will probably get a ban just for saying that ????If so check out my predictions for tonight . :naughty:

I still think there could be. I'm not convinced the Ruiz-Fury-Wilder trio of fights could give us some ATG fights

Is anyone going to surpass Ali as Ali was somewhat of a one off?

We often compare past fighters with todays and often don rose coloured spectacles to do so, but they were of another era from John L Sullivan bare fisted and coming up to scratch thru the ages till today.

Ali fought in era of 15 round fights, Heavyweights now often gas in later rounds of 12 round or less fights.

Ali might well have had career curtailed earlier if modern neuro tests, scans etc were in force at time of his latter fights.

A present day fighter does not have the race/religion issue to deal with and defend, Ali could have of course done a Joe Louis, take the draft then just be a poster boy and be a good gentleman of colour and not lost the title.

How do you judge whether a boxer has surpassed Ali ? Well on win/loss ratio lot of fighters better than Ali, on ko percentage again others beat Ali the list goes on.

Clay/Ali were the phenomena of their era, talked the talk and walked the walk, HW boxers of the present era will make their own history, just not likely to defend the title 8 times in less than 2 yr period as Ali did before being stripped of title for not taking the draft, and same after regaining title from Foreman.
