for a fighter the level of 'Mayor as well as a counterpuncher of his caliber, a highlight real KO is pretty much guaranteed
I Totally disagree with people giving Casa all the chances of beating Gamboa. Keep in mind that Gamboa was way more accomplished as an Amateur than Joel. Even though that it would be a very tough test for Gamboa, his insane speed and KO power would eventually catch up with Casamayor's chin, put him to sleep or beat him by decision! I am Cuban and have to admit that Casamayor is nowhere in the level ( pure raw talent ) as Gamboa. Yuriorkis will definitely go way farther than Casamayor in the pros... Now, a Rigondeaux-Gamboa fight is something very different...
He wouldn't do anything to him, it'd be JMM up his ass all over again. Corrales and Castillo were tailor made for him. Gamboa is speacal, you will see when he defeats Chris John, even after his loss to Juan Manuel Lopez. Rigondeaux is the thurth. He beat Abner Mares in the Ams.
casa was a am that was made for the pros. learned all the counterpunching tricks and was still part of the old point system. he is a great technician with a hagleresque rough and toughness about him. being a great amateur means nish without the vest, it's just a learning ground for pro's...and in that joel won a gold for his troubles. gamboa being the better achiever in th eunpaid ranks means ****ery in a 12 rounder. gamboa hasnt the tech skills. he has the power and the speed. but he isnt sparking casa and he isnt going to bulldoze his way like gamboa has done to most other fighters. casa is bigger, has a full array of wepons and can bring a fight if he wants to. gamboa in turn doesnt have a great jab or amazing footwork but more of a step and bang this weight over your feet style is gonna lead you to falling over. his legs arent spread enough at times. also where is this "gamboa got a glass jaw" theory coming from. he got knocked...down in the most literal meaning. it's not like his knees went to jelly. his head is usually dragged by a right hook to th efloor...leaving his head so exsposed to the elements would be a perfect target for a casa 2-1-2
you guys overrate Casamayor's power but current version of Gamboa would be broken down by a prime Casamayor, it would be a dull fight with a lot of holding on Casamayor's part though.
Casamayor was half a 10 rounder dominated by a Puerto Rican fighter named Seda ( I think), Seda also knocked him down with a jab. He is a techinacl boxer, see when Casamayor faces a good boxer with a great jab he loses. And its not far fetched to say GAmboa might not be as proffessional as CAsamayor, but he is more naturally gifted, and with his gifted jab would knock Casamayors teeth out lol.
