An example or two, and then come up with your own. I gave Oscar the win over Trinidad, but have him losing to Sturm. If you agree, how would that change his legacy (besides the proverbial "every time he stepped up he lost")? How about Pea? If you gave him the nod over Chavez, what would that do for him? List any fighter, any questionable decision, and how his legacy would be changed if the "right" decision was handed down.
Marvin Hagler. If he get's the nod over Ray Leonard he probably goes down as the best fighter in the 1980's. I think the win could have changed his legacy. And I know I'm only supposed to do one, but the Vito Antefermo (sp? didn't feel like looking his name up) draw has to be overturned to.
No, you can do more. BTW thats a good decision- not only would Haggler's legacy be very different but of course SRL's would also.
Foreman got kocked down rose to the count of 9 and quit. He quit himself, nothing really controversial about.
The last Ken Norton-Ali fight was real close. Some people even thought Norton won it. If Norton gets the decision he would have been the only man to beat Ali twice. That has to enhance his legacy.
For a recent one, if Winky Wright beats Hopkins maybe it's him facing Calzaghe on April 19th. A big win over Hopkins, Trinidad and a draw with Taylor would probably make him one of the higher echelon fighters of our decade.
If Castillo beat PBF. That would change both Castillo & PBF legacy, PBF more so. If Pac beat JMM, he could possibly have been the p4p #1 at 1 point with pbf playing catchup. If Hopkins beat Taylor. He'd still be MW champ and may not have faced winky & tarver. If Barrera beat JMM. His ATG status rockets up.
To take it a step further, some thought Norton swept him. Imagine how much more highly he'd get thought of if he'd pulled that off.
I had it 76-76 after eight rounds, but the cut affected Winky terribly, in the last four, each of which I had Hopkins winning. Hopkins was headbutting constantly, ok its not a tickling contest, but ****ing hell - it was every five seconds! Winky looked like a beached whale - didn't have chance to grow into the weight and looked sluggish throughout. To be fair, it wasn't one of Hopkins best performances, but I think the decision was fair enough
If Casamayor had gotten the decisions over Freitas, Corrales, and Castillo, he would be viewed much different. All 3 could have gone his way.
