Fitz and Ezzard Charles, under some kind of compromised hybrid rule set, under which each fighter gets six months to practice and adapt.

SOME GREAT FIGHTS HERE... I'd pay for the last 3 forsure, especially Marshall vs Conn.

Marshall weighing 166lbs gave Mills 10lbs ,floored him 4 times and stopped him in 5 rds ,3 months later Marshall was taken out in2 rds by Charles which indicates the gap in class between the top light heavies and Mills I think .

Charles v Tunney might actually be for the ATG 175lbs title imo.

I'd agree, Ezzard is my number 1 LHW, and Tunney is top 3, a win over Ezzard would be enough to push him to 1

Fitzsimmons v Langford would be pretty explosive,on paper at least.

You have to favor Spinks but I liked Hearns as a Light Heavy. His wins over Dennis Andries KO10 and Virgil Hill W12 were very good. I thought he deserved the decision vs. Iran Barkley in their rematch.

He also did well at Cruiser despite being well past-prime. His win over Nate Miller was good. Miller had lost close decisions to Fabrice Tiozzo and Orlin Norris leading up to the Hearns fight, Hearns clearly beat Miller. You will see a TKO loss at the hands of Uriah Grant but that was due to an ankle injury.

I know about Marshall and Mills.
Lloyd Marshal is one of my favourite fighters he is an ATG.

that has little to do with a Conn vs Mills fight circa 41-43...

just like I know Zale the MW ran Conn the distance in 42, and though I favour Conn the BOXER, I know this would have been a great fight. there's no way Zale would have had the same sort of fight against Mils as he did against Conn.

2 and 3 year window mean a lot in the fight game, especially back then when these men fought so many fights. Mills' tango's with some powerful Bigmen prove his merit too, win or lose.

Charles, he's another discussion, an Elite TOP Man, but in his own time wasn't seen as an exception.

so put Boxing into perspective, we can deduce a lot from history in hindsight, rightly and wrong.

Some GREAT and Capable men here - ALL of them GREAT, Great or Top men with little between them.

I'm not one of these stuck people that don't look at things for what they were/ARE...

    1) Boxing is a BUSINESS
    2) the Best don't always fight the BEST
    3) Achievements are only Half of a Story
    4) it is also IMPOSSIBLE for any fighter to have fought or met ALL his best possible opponents
    5) boxing is Partisan = Money Men, Investment, Corruption and not always legitimate Placement of fighters
    6) many Era's are better than others
    7) Old FILM Footage IS Poor NOT the FIGHTERS

    and here's the last point.

    I'm a Boxing FAN,
    a researcher
    a student.

I am NOT in competition with ANYONE, nor in a fight, nor always right and likewise not necessarily wrong either,,, it's discussion speculation and FUN.

lastly I have a panoramic good look at fighters, their opponents, their opponents, opponents, circumstances surrounding fights, size and weights, when fighters met, pre peak, during peak, after peak and all such wonderful measures.

I have learned that 100% accurate Rating's Rankings and Speculations are IMPOSSIBLE... so Fact based discussion, honesty and willingness to look at the contemporary reports, claims and references are more accurate than yours or mine, in context.

I don't participate in unwilling dialogue that won't recognise these all encompassing facts.

point is, I'm just a fan discussing boxing, loads of guys on Forums are just fine, but a few others think they are king, while others yet are malicious cheeky *******s... I'm not here for the later, sorry.

but I'll finish on point, Conn vs Mills could have been a great fight.

    thank you.

I don't know why you are so defensive here? I haven't criticized you in any way, just pointed out that Mills would not be in with a chance against a peak Conn .Conn was fighting nobody in 43 and was washed up when he resumed his career after his army service.
What points have you made that you think I am unaware of? Both Lesnevich and Mills missed the best of their divisions . You cant fight everybody true ,but you can fight your best challengers! In closing there are too many names missing from both Mills and Lesnevich's record to call either of them great fighters. Mills being criminally thrown in with heavyweights who beat him up and left him with mental health problems doesn't cut any ice when comparing him to great 175pounders, it just shows his manager was a flesh pedlar who didn't give a **** about him.
You seem unnecessarily sensitive to even the vaguest implied /perceived criticism, perhaps a forum isnt the ideal place for you. Best Wishes.
