    1. Drain down to 161
    2. Rehydration clause of +1 lb.
    3. Cut purse to less than 50% of what David is asking.
    4. Call David a ducker for refusing.

    Not get knocked out.
Wait to be announced the winner by split decision, with cards of 118-110, 115-113 and 113-115.

Canelo has the footwork and defense advantage, plus he is much more crafty and experienced than Benavidez. Most logical strategy would be to keep a high guard and potshot his way to a points victory. Canelo's power at 168 is decent and he could catch David if he gets too brave, although I expect Benavidez would keep it long and punish Alvarez with his jab.

That's a quick and simple breakdown. If they do ever fight, IMO it would be very much a tit for tat technical affair.

Don't think thats a winnable fight for Canelo at this stage. The work rate , size and iron chin will be too much. . You need guard splitting power to hurt this guy and Canelo aint got it

The average Canelo fan believes Canelos counters will shut down Davids offense and he will beat him on points or knock him out. Obviouslly totally delusional and zero consideration of Canelos mediocre gas tank which will leave Canelo gasping for air by round 6, and struggling to throw anything. They seem to think Benavidez is like margarito.

Canelo only has a punchers chance, other wise he gets beat down and stopped.

Their defense skills have nothing to do with this. Benavidez walked them down because they had no firepower lol. They couldn't match him head on. Once he saw they lacked the strength to keep him off, he pretty much tore through them.

Canelo on the other hand does have the firepower to keep Benavidez off him as well as the chin to help with it.

Benavidez isn't invulnerable. He's a volume punchers and like most other ones, his big weakness is that he never lets up off the trigger and is thus vulnerable to getting clipped. Canelo very much knows how to deal with volume punchers as he's fought them, notably Khan who he clipped and knocked out quite brutally in fact. He wasn't faster than Khan in any department, but he did have damn good timing which allowed him to beat the faster puncher.

    Timing > Speed.

If Benavidez comes in there trigger happy and I suspect he will because he's been salivating all over himself for the chance to fight Canelo, you can bet Canelo will take advantage of it and clip him when he least expects it.

Actually Canelo has the style advantage here because he specializes in throwing single, well-timed shots that do huge damage which is exactly the kind of style you need against a volume puncher like Benavidez. Benavidez being bigger means little of nothing as most of Canelo's opponents have been bigger than him, yet he found a way to beat them.

If you think low volume single shots even with power can keep Benavidez off him for 12 rounds you are in fantasy land. I think Benavidez mauls him on the ropes and hammers him.

He's gonna have to stay in the pocket, the body work will turn the volume down along with that 1st counter to send the message. David keeps saying in interviews he likes to get hit, that's not a good mentality against Canelo, he'll have to be careful or be sorry. Most guys know early in the fight if they want any of their opponents smoke. You'll see guys who never backpedal get on the bike and it's downhill from there.

At some point almost all great fighters run into one that can beat them. Whether it's due to age, too many fights, lack of hunger or any number of things this happens to most of them. The true greats hold on for longer than you'd expect (Ali, Chavez, etc) but it catches up to everyone who doesn't retire at the right time.

For Canelo I think Benavidez is that guy. I cannot see even the great Canelo overcoming this hurdle. He may prove me wrong but I think the torch is about to be handed over.

Benavidez punch output would plummet against Canelo. Some of you guys think Benavidez can just walk Canelo down like he did Andrade. Not happening.

And when that happens we’ll start hearing the usual “he got paid to lose” nonsense. Rinse and repeat.

I think Canelo's head movement and defense are sound enough that he can withstand most of David's flurries without taking too much damage in the process. Meanwhile, every time David opens up with one of his, he's going to get countered flush with vicious overhands, uppercuts, hooks to the head and hooks to the body. Which would force an apprehensive David to keep his hands at home a bit more. Fear of flush punishing counters is a hell of a deterrent. Also, I'm not sure if David is sturdy enough to withstand that onslaught. After all, we have evidence that Canelo hits harder at 168 than David. David is an accumulation guy, not a one punch guy, as we saw with Plant. Canelo while his power may be overrated, he packs more one punch power than David, as we saw with Plant. This fight is a lot easier for Canelo than most of you seem to think it'll be. I say that as someone who said Bivol would beat him and that Ryder would give him a stern test.

No it wouldnt. David will punish canelo from range. Its almost like ù
David will be able to pick apart canelo from range

His jab, and lead right hand are one of the best in the sport.

Hes also unorthodoz and throws punches at weird angles.

I think youre severely underestimating david benevidez.

Styles makes fights. Canelo has already seen DB'S pressure style before and thats the style he looks good against, but DB has never fought a counter puncher as great as Canelo. DB will be more hesitant to throw once Canelo starts timing him with his counter shots. I wouldn't be surprised if DB totally changes his style to a more cautious approach when they do fight.

@Serge and I were the first two on here to start hyping Benavidez, I like Benavidez. I've seen over 20 of his matches. So no, I'm not severely underestimating him. I'm well aware of his jab and his unorthodox punches. It won't matter. Canelo has seen it all before, he brings nothing to the table that will bother him in the least. Canelo will negate every advantage he has, walk him down and beat his ass.
