My thoughts exactly. His best strategy is to buy Benavidez's next PPV and watch from the comfort of his living room.
Walk him down, punish him to the body, slip punches by swaying, time him with power shots, uppercuts.
I have watched plenty of him. He was a solid technical pressure fighter, good jab but pretty basic in how he fought. David is much more creative and dynamic in how he fights not to mention much bigger and faster so it makes zero sense to think Canelo deals with him easily. He even struggled with a 40 year old GGG at 168. Canelo fans are legit delusional.
GGG was basic compared to Canelo but was a hell of a fighter with a relentless pressure (first 2 fights) and an iron chin. Canelo did not struggle with a 40 year old GGG, that was a complete domination. Canelo was in cruise control for most of that fight with GGG being beat down round after round. The judges showed pity on GGG giving him some of the late rounds when he finally started to fight. David presents a much different challenge but the fact that he's bigger, or taller could work against him. His long body is a big target for Canelo's body attack who can use upper body movement to slip David's punches. One thing Andrade did that was good against Benavidez was when he crouched low down then exploded with power shots. He only did it a couple of times but when he did it worked and surprised Benavidez. Benavidez is pretty basic in terms of his punch selection, he only throws jabs and straights. This means Canelo can sway left and right to avoid those kind of punches, then land hard shots to the body. Where Benavidez presents problems is that he's young, motivated, and has good stamina. So he can outwork Canelo and possibly win a decision if it goes the distance. Also, unlike Bivol, Benavidez has power behind his punches so Canelo has to respect that. Benavidez has shown he has a good jab to the body which he can use to try and slow down Canelo but Canelo's body is not a big target, and if Benavidez does jabs to the body it gives Canelo an opportunity to counter upstairs with power shots. It should be a great fight, I can't wait.
Haha what? Get some glasses. He literally throws every shot in the book. hooks, punches from all different angles he literally threw a triple uppercut on andrade and landed every shot. You called arguably the best combination puncher in the sport basic. Just look at all those basic jabs and straights! This content is protected
When he gets his man in trouble he starts unloading with the kitchen sink, but he generally spends most of the rounds walking you down with jabs and straights. He has long arms so it doesn't really suit him to negate his reach advantage by shortening up his shots with hooks and uppercuts. If you watch most of his work, particularly when dealing with slick movers, like Plant for example, it was a steady stream of jabs and straights, occasional jab to the body, occasional hook to the body, but mostly straight punches.
Canelo is not a slick mover is a flat footed plodder which is perfect target practice for David. It will be one of davids easiest fights.
Andrade could push Benavidez back in spots. David punished him when he was backpedaling, not when he was pressing This doesn't bode well against Canelo, plus Benavidez is also fighting the judges
You're delusional. Canelo will be by far David's toughest challenge. For you to say it will be David's easiest fight shows YDKSAB. Canelo has very good defense, he has shown slickness throughout his career. He has become more of a plodder in recent years, vs the kind of footwork he showed in GGG 1 or against Jacobs, but his upper body movement will cause Benavidez problems. I would expect Benavidez to throw more punches and try to outwork him which will make it interesting to see how many rounds he can win. It's a great test for both men.
Do you want to wager some money that Canelo fight Benavidez before he does Crawford? $300 dollars sound good?
The question is will Canelo give Benavidez some movement, probably early on but it could turn into a toe to toe war because Canelo knows he has to be aggressive and fight off the front foot in order to get inside and score to the body. He's not going to pick Benavidez apart from the outside due to the significant reach advantage Benavidez has. Canelo's the better inside fighter, the better body puncher, so it suits him to get inside on Benavidez and punish that body, try to slow Benavidez down. Benavidez may even become cautious and more reluctant to come forward than he usually is. It's a fascinating stylistic matchup.
