You don't think Williams has already proven himself to be among the best in the 147-154 range? Let's set aside the question of what Cotto has to do to become an ATG - what does Williams have to do, IYO, to merely become one of the best of his era in his range?
Look, i like Cotto as much as the next man, but he doesn't have atg potential in my potential imo. HOF-potential ok, and that's good enough, no? Why do some people want to make their fav fighters into something more than what they are, when what they are is already damn good? Cotto is what he is, an excellent fighter with boatloads of courage who should come up a little short against absolute cream of the crop fighters like Pac or Mayweather 9 times out of 10, and that's fine.
To Cotto be an al time great he only need to make simple thing. Born again and have the Mayweather last name . Losers.
rematch Martinez and win more convincingly, taking Dziniruk out of the picture at 154 would do it for me but other than that a win over a big name like Mosley,Mayweather,Pacquiao,Cotto would be more than enough. As far as im concerned I put him in the same category as Berto is now in terms of class.
Interesting. I already have him comfortably ahead of Berto, but yeah - any of those wins you mentioned would have to erase doubt in anybody's mind that he's the truth in the welter-middle neighborhood.
Nah, Williams is a very good fighter with flaws who has beaten top opposition. Berto is a hyped up prospect who has beat decent opposition.
weren't most of his other titles vacant titles? I like Cotto, but winning vacant titles is not the same as beating the champs.
Three of his four, I believe but since he defended those three all at least once and had wins over several former and future champions, it just doesn't matter, imo.
he hasnt got the style to beat pac or pbf so he should forget about them. he could upset williams and martinez and those two wins would put him close to ATG.
step in the ring with an undefeated fighter who is a clear favorite over him. Then, Cotto should proceed to school him.
yeah, that's cool, but saying 'he was champ at 3 weights therefore he's ATG material' is misleading if those titles were vacant.
