What would Deontay Wilder's boxing record be if he fought in Muhammad Ali's era?

He wouldn't get past Chuvalo.

 

No, his biggest criticism is that he hasn’t fought anyone above white collar, journeymen and tomato can level

If he fought 42 times in the Ali, Frazier era he’d realistically be something like
Fights 42
Wins 8 (6KOs)
Losses 34 (29KOs)

 

Probably pretty similar.

Going against the view of many but i believe Wilder with a good gas tank and his heavy punch would not be as bad as some others say.

Whatever your view of the competition Wilder has faced, it took a behemoth with skills and recuperative powers of 'The Undertaker' to actually beat him.

Wilder for all his lack of boxing skills only needs one opening to back up his quote of:
"These guys have to be perfect for 12 rounds, I only need to be perfect for two seconds, and then in the blink of an eye it’s bam baby, goodnight!”

I am not a Wilder fan but dismissing him out of hand in the Ali era i cannot agree with.

 

Wilder could beat fighters like Bugner and Chuvalo...

 

The havoc Wilder would've caused in the late 1960s and the 1970s would've been enormous.

A 6'7" menacing KO artist with a lethal right hand against fighters who outweigh him by 20, 30, 40, 50 pounds NOW ....

Instead goes up against six foot tall, 190/200 pound fighters from the late 60s and early 70s where it's Wilder with the height and reach and WEIGHT advantage ... live on ABC's Wide World of Sports?

Wilder would've gotten higher ratings than Evel Knievel.

The 1967/68 WBA Tournament ... Wilder walks away with all knockouts.

A unification with Frazier, Wilder destroys Joe. Destroys him.

Wilder would've been the image of the Black Power "I'm Black and I'm Proud" Movement.

1971 Ali coming back with a little rust on him and dreading the upcoming Supreme Court ruling on his future ... looking to lay on the ropes against Wilder to save his legs ... I won't even type what I think happens to Ali, only that he goes down and doesn't get up.

Ken Norton? Christ ... Norton would be signing up to make Mandingo II and never return to the sport.

Once Wilder got out of the early 70s, he could've gotten older and feasted on the likes of Evangelista, Dunn, Bobick, Leon, John Tate, Kallie Knoetzee.

With no 6'9" 280-pound boxing phenom Fury around ... the only thing that would derail Wilder was if he developed a cocaine habit in the latter half of the 70s that cut down a lot of folks. If so, he'd have probably died in some bizarre overdose after heading back to the Chateau Marmont with Suzanne Somers (Three's Company) and the Bionic Woman, Lindsay Wagner.

Otherwise, he retires as champ and has his own sitcom by the start of the 80s that debuts right after "B.J. and the Bear" ... featuring Wilder, in a classic sitcom scenario, as the head of a household full of a bunch of opinionated kids, and Deontay Wilder becomes America's dad ... instead of Bill Cosby.

Something like that.

 

He'd have some good wins perhaps , but his losses would be catastrophic knockouts that shorten his career.

 

As much as i dislike him, he would pretty much KO most of those overrated midgets

 

Obviously, Ali would beat him. Shifty boxers like Jimmy Young would probably beat him. I think Foreman would beat him. If he fought the major players in Ali's eras, I would expect him to be about 39-6 (39 wins by KO), with 45 trips to the well. Not a bad career, really. (IMHO, of course.)

 

Brutal knockouts would shorten his career. After the second Fury fight Wilder had less punch resistance... he'd get hurt by the bigger hitters including Liston and Foreman and that would be the end of it.

 

Depends. Would he fight bums and physically unfit fighters then? Then it would be similar to now.
