he needs to push it right from the start. go through hell if he needs to. just push. hopefully, without all the holding that Ward uses as his main tactic to shut someone down, the fight would be a lot more open. Froch would have a great chance in a clean fight. there is a reason why Ward holds all the time. he's not comfortable in an open fight. if he was, he'd be doing it all the time. but he doesn't. hold, hold, hold, hold...
A key thing from Saturdays's contest to note is that both Froch and Kessler are declining and it is downhill from here onwards.
Froch would need a new body. Like the million dollar man. "We can rebuild him." He's not athletic enough, nor does he have the boxing brain to beat Ward. His best hope is to use what he has, a great chin and some good power and hope he gets lucky with a big shot. It might happen once in 4 fights, say. He's not going to win it, anywhere, ever.
It shouldn't because Ward ain't static, has head movement and the agility to hit and not be hit more often than not when sticking to boxing from the outside instead of fighting on the inside.
The first fight told a bit of a different story, IIRC. Admittedly, I only watched it the once, but Ward bullied Froch around in the fight until he was well ahead, then took his foot off the gas and coasted. Some say he gassed, others say it was due to the injured paw.) I don't remember all that much holding except toward the end, although I may be wrong. Seems he likes to smother and crowd his opposition, not just hold. Though, obviously, he will do that too.
he'd have to somehow become andre dirrell while keeping his chin/heart/warrior spirit then he MIGHT win.
Both guys could not finish each other of when the had the other hurt. Kessler in particular is having difficulty pulling the trigger at this level. The Kessler of old would have won this fight. Froch is having difficulty sticking to the game plan, his defense is getting worse and timing is all over the place. It was an enjoyable an entertaining fight.
Let's see... Carl has to learn to stop blocking punches with his face. Carl has to get a ****ing clue on how to fight on the inside. Carl needs to develop some actual technical boxing skills. So in a nutshell, nothing really....
