Let's say Hagler had got that decision over SRL(whatver your opinion is)....what do you think would have happened next? rematch with SRL? rematch with Hearns? a match against McCallum, Tate, Nunn, Olajide?

Exactly right, but i think there would have been lots of turmoil over the decision and they would have had to fight again if SRL was so inclined. Hagler would have had to go again, he'd show up i think.

Yeah, if SRL wanted a rematch it would have happened.

I would agree......win or lose, a Leonard rematch would have been Hagler's likely last match.

Hagler wanted a Leonard rematch, but when Leonard refused, Hagler was not about to beg and he retired.

Years later, Leonard tried to lure Hagler out of retirement for a rematch that would have been the equivalent and just as meaningless as the 3rd Leonard-Duran match......the fact that Hagler ignored him in my view was the equivalent of a KO victory for Marvelous Marvin!:yep

I think he'd have retired a happier man, which in turn would mean Bertha got to keep her teeth.

Wow, you're easily impressed. Looks like Lennox KO'd Vitali second time around. He obviously wasn't content with the cut stoppage win. :good

If Marv had been awarded the decision over SRL, I don't know who he would have faced next, but I can guarantee he would not have retired just yet. Hagler wanted to set the all time record for successful middleweight title defenses held by Monzon. Assuming he managed to top Monzon, that's the point where he would have elected to retire.

I think hagler would have continued fighting for another 20 years and had a shot against Kelly pavlik next month.

hagler would ave retired. he was going to retire anyway until leonard came out. the record defenses were on his mind one time but the last two fights took everything out of him.

Hagler himself made this clear in '87 --he had two rematches on his list -Duran and Hearns. He only retired out of disgust, even though he had slowed down a bunch as was clear against Mugabi.

There was talk about a second match against Hearns for the following year, so I believe that is what would have happened.:good

I think that Marvin would have retired if the fight with Leonard wouldve been just the same as it was but with the decision going to Hagler . He mightve acceptd that his skills had diminishd because he had just had a very close one with a natural welter .

If he wouldve eazily beat Leonard he wouldve carried on fighting though
