What would happen if HBO/SHO said no to boxing?

I'm really curious, what would happen to the sport of boxing if HBO and/or SHO decided not to continue in the boxing business?

It seems as if HBO has cut its commitment to boxing in recent years. SHO is stepping up their coverage, but if the Mayweather experiment continues to tank you wonder if they will keep up their interest in boxing.

Networks like ESPN, FS1, NBCSN do exist, but currently they don't come close to offering the type of guaranteed money that HBO and SHO routinely offer up.

I'd guess that we'd see an even greater number of PPV, and they would continue to milk a small but loyal fanbase out of their hard-earned money. You might see other smaller outlets like Epix try to take their place.

I think we can all agree that the only boxers who really are able to make a living off of the sport are the ones who fight on HBO/SHO. The rest make comparative peanuts, and have other jobs to sustain themselves financially.

You'd see way more ppvs, albeit at a cheaper price say between 20-30 bucks. You'd also see fighters purses drop.

Means boxing would have to earn it's keep and quality would go way up and salaries down.

LOL. I think it does. Imagine boxing on AMC or some ****.

"And later tonight after the Walking Dead, be sure to catch AMC Championship boxing featuring Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter, now back to the walking dead"

It would probably motivate the promoters to actually work together and go towards streaming services similar to what Matchroom is doing in UK. There are business models that would work, but the political/business climate is so complicated in the US... its not really feasible. (if I thought it was, I would do it myself)

If HBO and SHO were out of the picture, it would be a different ballgame.

Boxing would diminish in popularity even more, and the majority of the fights would be held on FS1, BeinSport, NBCSN, ESPN2 and occasionally if Mayweather and Pacquiao fought it would be PPV, after they retire Boxing would sink to the level of extreme snowboarding, and everyone other than us would forget it exists.

I believe those other channels are owned by either hbo or Showtime. Depending on which channel package you choose, you automatically pick up the other " junior" channels
