Title. Would Ruiz get sued? Would all the belts split? If he had retired would it make any difference?

This was all discussed and done at the time. All the Haymon and PBC fanboys were coming up with wild theories that they were gonna get out of the rematch because of how powerful Haymon was and fight Wilder for all the belts, it was pretty funny.

Everyone with a brain said Ruiz would have to take the rematch and be mad not to, he earned a wedge and he knew it - didn’t train. Too much fame/money at once.

He's 1-1 vs. AJ and has the stoppage win and look where he is now. On the outside looking in.

I and many others have said it - Ruiz needs to put the fork down and get serious. Else he'll go down as a "one hit wonder".

Thing is it’s hard to cope getting all that fame and money at once, his old trainer said it all - Ruiz was away with the fairies after that first win.

    What's to explain?

Ruiz became a bit of an ass saying things like he isn't fighting here and he isn't fighting there

    Wants more money etc etc

That was all PBC advising him

Surely you remember all of this?

That’s common in negotiating though isn’t it? Even Sam Jones could do that. I’m saying people were saying he could run off with the belts and have him face wilder which was hilarious.

Yea h those kind of comments were daft but I don t think the way Ruiz was publicly saying this stuff is that common esp when you consider his demeanour previously before the AJ fight

They frustrated Hearn and AJ a lot before the Saudi deal was struck

Haymon knows his law and imo spotted something in the MR contract that he thought he could dispute and at the very least hold up the fight and maybe get some sway

Hearn went on record saying they fight where we want and lets face it ,Saudi was a compromise

A financially very good one in the end but they never wanted to go down that road initially

It was UK they wanted but PBC (i wont say Andy as i think he was heavily influnced) dug their heels in

Yes. If retired, he had to vacate belts voluntary and boxing orgs later had dealt how to manage tittle fights for their tittles.

With these belts he had better opportunity to get very good purse for fight.
I think he assumed that he will win this one.
Get lazy while A.J had improved.
If Ruiz wasn't lazy, maybe he had stopped A.J again.
