Ali wins decision. By around five points. Speed would be the decider here.

do you think that it would be that close? I think that ali was much faster and it would be the difference, he ha dmuch better reflexes than holmes, larry would get frustrated.. Even this zombie ali lasted 11 rounds with holmes..

I think Ali's speed and work rate would result in him outpointing Holmes to a close yet clear decision. I don't see him stopping a prime Larry. And Holmes had plenty of speed, skill and stamina to at least make it a close contest.

Holmes has his moments, but Ali takes it very clearly. He would be outspeeding Larry, and showing off his dazzling jab and IMO outjabbing Larry. Larry was vulnerable to the right cross and Ali would be sticking that in quite a bit as well. Ali by decision, no knockout whatsoever.

I think a focused and prime 67 Ali would have beat the living **** out of Holmes...

If Ali really steps on the gas, Holmes is outta there by the 13th, If Ali goes into criuse mode he wins by lopsided 15 rd decision...

67 Ali holds all the aces, over 80 Holmes, speed, power, youth, ring generaliship, better coach in Dundee, i can't off the top of my head think of Holmes having the edge in anything here..

Yes, Ali was already having kidney problems in 1980, and still lasted 11 rounds, amazing..

All fair opinions.. but one thing to consider...anyone with an ounce of boxing acumen can see by watching the 1980 "event"
That Larry carried Ali ....he didnt want to damage him...he did no more than he had too.The 11 rounds was down to Holmes taking it easy.
Prime Ali wins on points as prime Ali could against anyone.

honestly i don“t think that it was truth... you can see sometimes that larry was giving him a complete beating in the corner and you can say even that he was trying to stop ali, but ali was durable like hell, and larry like always said this crap that he did not want to hurt him... the facts said that holmes hated ali and he was desperate to show to the world that he was the new best. he could not stop ali before.

Ali taught Holmes everything Holmes knew. The master wouldn't lose to the pupil if he was in his peak. He would know all of Holmes weaknesses.

Would have been a hell of a fight. Holmes might have been a great defensive boxer but he had no problems with standing in front of an opponent and trading shots.

A prime Holmes is more than a hand full for any HW boxer from any era.

And no boxer does the Limo Dive better onto an opponent when he's pissed.

Ali in a hard fought decision. Styles making fights

This is true. The only thing Holmes did better than Ali was that he slightly hit harder, and he could body punch when needed. Ali was better in all other areas, and I think Prime Ali at least had a jab that was equivalent to Holmes' jab..

The main point is that Ali would land right hands on Holmes, Holmes was vulnerable to a shot like that. Whenever Ali needed to scramble for a win, he always could. Holmes does not bring the intangibles Norton does and he doesn't have Frazier's style, the only guys that could bother Ali when Ali was NEAR his prime.. Ali beats Frazier and Norton in his 66-67 prime IMO.

No knockout, since Holmes is tough as nails.. But there would be a few situations where Ali would land and stun Holmes.

    Ab-solutely Tommy Gun.

'80 zombie Ali had Parknson's bad & should never have been sanctioned. Also the diet shot quackery.

Ali's angles, work rate speed & combinations would carry the day. UD.

i think that it is not even truth.. pretty debatable.. ali in his peak had incredible speed so he had more hitting power, he landed grat combinations very fast, he was a much more effective puncher than holmes, the ali who fought cleveland williams did hit harder than holmes
