Imagine for a moment that through an incredibly lucky punch, Tyson Fury KOs Wladimir Klitschko. Wlad decides to retire rather than exercise his rematch clause. What effects on boxing as a whole?
Nothing at all unless his first (and only) defense is against a US boxer. In this case US heavyweight boxing undergoes a brief resurgence. (which could, I suppose, get the ball rolling, maybe...or not) Otherwise he loses his first defense against a Pulev type guy and the world fails to notice.
there is no such thing as luck in boxing...especially when it comes to punching. fury ktfo'ing wlad isn't far fetched.
Fury will never get to fight Wlad. And if he does, Wlad would kick his ass. Hell, I think Arreola would knock Fury out.
It would shake up the division for sure. And for as long as Fury was able to hold on to the title - which likely wouldn't be long - it would be an exciting ride. Fury is the sort of character boxing needs to become mainstream again.
Positive effect. I big, loud-mouth, obnoxious white guy, would get a lot of attention, sell a ton of tickets. It would be like if a less pleasant Gerry Cooney knocked out Holmes.
Welcome back to 2013. Bumping this for some surprisingly good guesses about what -- at the time -- seemed farfetched.
