After his 2013 loss to Mayweather and before Mayweather finally retired Canelo brought up a few times wanting to rematch Mayweather. What year would have made the most sense for both for that to have happened?

Floyd would have whooped him again until just recently (bout a couple of years now) at which point floyd was too old.

the fight we got was the best version we could get.

Fight didn't warrant a rematch, it wasn't close.

when they fought was the only real window of opportunity for the fight to happen.
floyd lost movement at 154, that was his limit, and canelo wasn't far off moving up to 160.
given the nature of the win, that immediately discounted any chance of a rematch.

Mayweather was 36 at his max division where he only fought 3 times in his career. Canelo was 23 at his first division and so far fought as high as 175. That was the only time they could ever meet.

Never. Clenelo is in his absolute prime right now... 9 years later.

lol! Canelo is far better than Floyd now a couple years ago he would have beaten Floyd easily, specifically at 160 after beating GGG who would have also beaten Floyd.

2015 cut off. Floyd was already on the decline by then.

Best time for a rematch? 2015 would have been ok. By that time Canelo had already reached his physical prime, and would have presented a tougher fight for Floyd. Plus, canelo's popularity had soared and he improved immensely by that time. Dont know if ut would have been enough to beat floyd, but i do know it would have been alot more competitive.

    • No reason for a rematch, it was a one-sided near shut out (I had it 11-1)
    • If Canelo struggled to make 152, it was the last time they could logically make the fight given Floyd would not have given up any advantages
Tbh the fact the fight even happened I think was quite surprising, considering both guys, I think Oscar gambled but it didn't pay off, but as it happens Canelo learned a ton both in and out of the ring from that fight IMO - and not all of it for the good.

2015 Cotto version of Canelo could beat Mayweather. It is Canelo's still the best fight in terms of pure fundemental skills. Canelo was also at his physical prime.

Maybe after the Cotto fight. But they were just at opposite ends of their careers. Old great man at the end of his career and maxed out at weight, and a very good young man, filling out fast and prime for prime and size for size would have never matched up.

No sense in a rematch because the win was so comprehensive I hardly gave Canelo a round even in sympathy.
