What if Spinks challenged Holy for the cruiser title after his blow out v Tyson? Who would have won?

Spinks would have had a very good chance, because Holyfield would have been inexperienced.

In hindsight he should probably have done this!

Good chance on experience, but it is hard to know how he would have fought after that sort of loss to Tyson. The odd thing about the Tyson fight is even though he was hit hard, those punches were so quick and it was just over fast. He seemed ok when he got up.. He just couldn't absorb anything from Tyson. From that fight I think Evander wins. Prior to the Tyson fight maybe Spinks, but Spinks had problems had knee issues. His mobility might be needed against a guy like Evander in those years.

I don’t think he could have beat Holy post Tyson, not to mention that Holy would begin campaigning at HW 3 weeks following the Tyson fight.

I think 86-87 had he decided to do this it would have been an epic clash, that I would take Spinks in during 86 and Holyfield in 87 and beyond.

More a case of not needing redemption in the first place!

Playing the bodyweights is a dangerous thing. Best example Roy Jones who wasn't the same fighter after his -heavyweight - Ruiz
win. I can imagine a Holyfield win by a third round ko.

Maybe, but I feel Spinks would have lasted longer at cruiser v Holy at that stage than Jones would have at any stage, Roy didn`t belong with the bigger men despite beating the dreadful Ruiz.

I recall Spinks talking of coming out of retirement in 1991/1992 to fight Evander, should Evander have beaten Tyson at that time. That tells me that Spinks did not feel fear of Holyfield, unlike Spinks' feelings about Tyson. Which might mean it would have been competitive. But Holyfield was on fire at that time and, had it happened, he'd score a late-rounds kayo over Spinks.

Holyfield would’ve easily crushed Spinks in 1 or 2 rounds. Spinks was shot and done in 1988. After 1986 he couldn’t even train that well anymore due to bad knees.

Watching Tyson run over Spinks was sad to watch, since Spinks no longer had any mobility in his legs and was just showing up for a final payday (huge payday). It was like watching a poacher hunt a toothless and crippled lion. I have no doubt that Spinks from 85 would’ve given Tyson a very tough fight.

Holyfield was a heavyweight by then.
He had packed on 10 pounds already by the time Spinks faced Tyson, and had no intention of campaigning at cruiser again at all.
Beating Spinks at that stage would have done nothing for him as a heavyweight, nevermind beating him at cruiser.

Spinks wasn't beating anybody after Tyson. He knew it and retired. He'd lost his ability to conquer his own emotions.

Holyfield was already fully committed to HW by then. His last fight at Cruiser was in March 88 when he unified against DeLeon.
