What would have happened if Larry Holmes would have lost to Reynaldo Snipes in Nov 1981?

Probably. I think Cooney would have stopped Snipes at that point, too.

    Cooney would've benefited.
Imagine Cooney facing Snipes who was somewhat lackadaisical than the sharp Holmes he faced.
Cooney wins the championship, makes a ton of money by beating a few retreads before having to face a serious challenge. Holmes would've been completely ignored because he was K'oed by Snipes who Cooney Koed. The majority of Americans would be blinded by Cooney's complexion instead of his skill set.
History would be completely altered, and some on this very site would be arguing that Cooney was the greatest Heavyweight in history today.

Interesting scenario. Most likely, Snipes goes for the money, defends against Cooney, loses in a good fight, and spends the next couple of years in contenderdom. How long Gerry holds on to the belt, will depend on how long he can avoid Greg, Larry, and Michael.

Rematch. Or Cooney pushes int a fast fight w Snipes wh he will have felt was a fluke champ and an easy mark.
