What would have happened if Sonny Liston had been invited to the WBA Tournament in 1967?

It certainly would have added some more interest to the tourney. The tourney was filled with surprises and upsets. Three of the early favorites to win, veterans Patterson, Terrell, and Mildenberger, were eliminated in the first bouts. I have often wondered how Sonny would have done against those in the tournament. I suppose a lot could depend on who he drew as an opponent, but I think he would make an interesting match with any of them. Ellis and Quarry were on a roll at the time. But I've always had a sneaky suspicion that the powers that be didn't want Liston in the tournament simply because if he's in it, he could win it.

Yes. A win over Liston would have looked great on his resume.
