hatton v gatti at 140 2004/2005? I've not seen all of gattis fights only stuff on you tube. but i know that hatton use to be able to box his way to a decision if the pressure wasn't working or he wasn't strong enough. was gatti a good boxer as well as an exciting banger?

IMO Gatti would do better to box against Hatton than vice versa as Gatti was quicker. Gatti also had the bigger punch that could keep Hatton off as he didnt need as much room as Tszyu and was strong at LWW. I need more time to think about it though.

also Nick got your money thanks for that, you got your DVDs?

Gatti changed his style when he went to McGirt (after the second Ward fight IIRC) and boxed more but he still wasn't a great stylist by any means.

while i dont dispute the hatton that fought tzyu was a different monster altogether.... no version of hatton beats any version of mayweather. fact of the week

he had speed though, he was quick

he started off his career as a boxer-puncher then went brawler/puncher then went to Boxer with McGirt then went to entertainer

Mayweather on pts vs the Hatton that beat Tszyu, there is no way I can see a man of Hatton`s abilities or attributes ever beating Floyd Mayweather, FMJ just has too many tools & is on a different level both in talent & adaptability.

    Mayweather UD 8-4

BTW while we're (kind of!) on the subject, does anyone know if Floyd is right handed or left handed? I know he fights orthodox but he looks like he might be left handed to me.

    No way.

You are falling into the Classic Forum mentality of favouring old time fighters/deceased ones.

Hatton would absolutely shred Gatti, whichever way he chose. He could brawl with him, he could out-jab and out-box him as well.

I think Hatton wins because he's the naturally bigger guy and its its a good style match up for him him his prime but I don't think theres a massive gulf in class between the two boxers.

Im not sure hes naturally the bigger guy Gatti was still a big and strong LWW, although i think Hatton could get Gatti to abandon his boxing and fight which would suit Hatton better

I agree with that to a degree, Greg.

Hatton has made better opponents than Gatti fight 'his' fight.

I'm trying to think of fights that it would mirror....

Hatton was the better ring general and perhaps slightly better defence.

If you look at Gattis record at 140 its not THAT impressive. Although they were exciting, having life and death battles with limited Micky Ward and blown up featherweight Jesse James Leija isn't really a good sign when you are looking at his chances against Hatton.

I know that but the 2nd and 3rd fights with Ward were fairly wide UDs. you gotta remember Gatti had tools to make Hattn have a touhg fight with his strength and power
