Did people really think Holyfield was 'shot and old' in 96?

What are those people calling him at this point?

Me too. I think the worst scenario that I envisioned for Tyson was a competitive unanimous decision win for him.

Someone posted an interview from Tommy Brooks on here somewhere, in it Brooks mentioned that Tyson had only trained 2 weeks for Holyfield

I cant be bothered to find it.

Another interesting scenario would have been Bowe Vs Tyson after the Holyfield and Golota bouts. Tyson had more in the tank but Bowe fought the more competitive loss

Evander was viewed as washed up & Don King promised to re-fund all PPv buyers a 50% refund if the fight went 3 rounds or less as a damage limitation exercise following the Bruno & especially the Seldon debacle's. There was uproar at the idea that Holyfield was a credible opponant with the view at the time too his previous outings & health concerns. The King contract with the MGM was called "The SMASH & GRAB"" contract too really milk the Tyson brand. Only one scribe from the Boston Globe i think? said that Evander would beat Tyson up & the rest mostly went along with the bookies for an inside 3 round wipe out.

I was there at the MGM for this fight & i can tell you that there was a hell of a lot of pissed of punters when the fight went into the 4th round & plenty of silent groans when the bell went to end the 1st:lol:
