It would have been at 154. Remember, Tito couldn’t make weight anymore at 147. He was bone dry. Plus, it was his first true mega fight so the next few fights, he didn’t quite have the same nerves and issues making weight. Despite all of this, Oscar was the one who got tired and was scared to trade hooks. Notice he didn’t try to throw his best punch that whole fight. Tito got comfortable late and Oscar didn’t want to stand and fight him. I think in a rematch Oscar would feel he’d have to be more aggressive, which would lead to less movement, which would mean more exchanges. Tito being stronger and the harder hitter would have a less mobile target and he’d feel better physically at the weight. Oscar had a good chin and it would be tested more, but I think he goes down at some point and at the end he’s looking to survive again and this time loses a very clear decision. Ultimately he’d always get tired in his big fights, whereas Tito didn’t.
Oscar had the chance to make this fight happen at 54 and didn't want it because he felt Tito would be too strong at that weight, which confuses me because he looked like he was having his way with Trinidiad for most of the fight. That being said, maybe being stalked all night and the pressure Trinidad was putting on him was unnerving and he didn't like the idea of a stronger Trinidad doing the same. Still, my thought is, Oscar would have won the rematch, but who knows.
I agree. People forget how much Tito had to struggle to make weight at 147 and he still finished stronger. He was the naturally bigger fighter and at 154, he looked great. Oscar would probably try to box but given the way he ended the first fight and the stink it caused, I think that would affect his game plan and like you say, he’d trade with Tito more this time. That would not be a good outcome for him.
I scored the bout for Oscar, but Tito was better at 154, which is where the rematch would have been. I pick Trinidad.
