What would it take for Canelo to get your respect as a fighter and champ?

I respect him and root for him most of the time

I was a bigger ggg fan and said negative things about canelo before but he won me over in the rematch and performances since

Only real issue is the clenbuterol scandal

I'm struggling to think of any fighter who has ever admitted they deserved to lose a fight when they were still active and trying to be marketable. Maybe years later after retirement, but to be honest I can't even think of that.

Exactly. Which is why I'd give him a lot of respect if he admitted his loss.

I think Joe Louis admitted he lost to Joe Walcott in their first fight.

For about 80% of the posters on this site that absolutely despise Canelo Alvarez, it would take Canelo moving upto heavyweight and beating Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk to get their respect. And maybe even then, i doubt theyd respect him and most likely say those fights were fixxed if Canelo somehow pulled it off and blah blah blah.

If he beats Bivol, GGG, and the winner of Joe smith- beterbeiv. If he does these three things he will be in boxings all time elite with present company as possibly thee best fighter from Mexico.

He got mine when he fought Trout tbh. The way a side boxers were ducking big fights back then it really surprised me to see a young champion fighting a high risk low reward fighter.

He already has my respect. He's not the only elite level boxer that has juiced. Most people here overlook the obvious case of Evan Fields for example, so why is Canelo any different? There seems to a witch hunt against Canelo in certain corners, e.g., his recent wins against BJS, Plant and Smith would look great on anybody else's record, even GGG's.

He has my respect, he's a tremendous boxer, just not as good as Golovkin who people constantly call overrated when it the eyes of most boxing fans... a past prime GGG beat Canelo twice

Respect..he had it ..til he failed the drug test ..even after he's still a great fighter..should have some losses though.

But like him and want him to win...no chance... probably only a handful of fighters I'd support him against n half of them are retired

By my count, Canelo has fought 5 guys people said he never would. Not bad

    Trout
    Lara
    Golovkin (twice)
    Jacobs
    Saunders

And now Bivol. You can argue all you want as to whether he won or lost some of those (I had him losing 2 of those) but he took the fights and fought well. And to the people saying Canelo waited Golovkin out, I sure hope none of you are fans of either Pacquiao or Mayweather...lol. The hype for Canelo GGG started in basically 2015 and they fought in 2017. That is not waiting someone out, sorry to tell you. Look at his resume by the age of 27, then look at the weak-a$$ resumes of the Charlos, Boo boo, etc.

He has my respect, what has he or his team done differently than any other money fighter in boxing history? He’s p4p number 1, active and realistically has been fighting the best around his weight classes for a while now. That’s all anyone can ask for a great fighter.
