What would Sergio Martinez have to achieve realistically to become an Top-100/ATG?

It's an interesting match-up if they both fight against each other at 168.:happy

Well! I don't know.... but at least he needs to try. Let me give him a suggestion, Martinez should try to dominate the MWD first by fighting Pilog.:yep

I know thats your boy but:patsch He could barely beat a limited Alfonso Lopez.,,And why does he deserve a rematch? For his rally in the mid rounds?

Worked for Hagler,Monzon and Hopkins wasnt a star(outside of boxing fan s) until after beating Tito and ODLH.

And unlike those 3 Martinez started at Welter and up until the last few fights was a career Junior Mw.

I think it's unfortunately out of reach given the time constraints he's facing and the weight range he's in. Best chance would be if he takes Floyd's 0 at 154 (I do think he would get a good deal of credit, even though he's bigger) or defeats whoever emerges out of Kessler, Bute, Froch, and Ward as the king of 168. On the latter, I think he only needs to beat the king and become unified/lineal at that division to be a historically great fighter; I'm not sure about top 100 or whatever but I think doing that within three years of doing the same thing at 160 would be a historically noteworthy feat. The problem with the first option is that Mayweather is unlikely to fight him period, and Martinez's prospects look even more grim when the gigantic Pacquiao fight will likely be his top priority. Likewise, it's impossible for him to get a significant win at 168 at the moment and it will likely remain that way for at least a year. Martinez's own athletic deterioration with age means he'd have even less of a shot at that weight, plus there's no guarantee that Ward, Froch, Bute, or Kessler would even want to fight him once their own business is settled.

The more boring options of dropping to 154 or staying at 160 won't get the job done IMO. I think he'd like to unify at 160; he' said his dream schedule for next year is Chavez-Sturm-Geale, but there's the huge problem of the first two not being interested in fighting him at all. Even if that wasn't a problem, the alphabets love stripping him of titles, which would make it quite difficult to ever hold 3 or 4 at a time. If he did manage to unify, he would get some credit but I feel like the quality of the division would really be held against him from a historical perspective. I have no idea what people think he could do to enhance his resume at 154. Thrashing Margarito or Cotto does more for his pocketbook than his legacy, and there really aren't a lot more credible names there than at 160. Alvarez will certainly not get in the ring with him, and wins over Vanes, Angulo, and Williams again aren't going to launch him up any historical P4P list.

I don't see him cracking 100 ATG at the rate he is going... no names to put under his resume to enhance it. Unless he grows some balls and fight the 168 guys, then no way he becomes ATG
