Almost. He needs a title defense or two vs a top ten guy not named Arreola.

Why did Arreola deserve a higher ranking than Pulev Povetkin, Fury, Adamek?

So would you be happy that he is genuine champ if he beats just one opponent out of for example Wilder, Pulev, Povetkin, Fury, Glazkov?

And then consider just as much of a champ, although less proven, as Froch, Brook etc?

He is a title holder, and as such he needs to unify with Wlad. I will respect him if he simply doesn't stall or run away from the fight.

    Beat Wlad. End of story.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I don't feel people apply the same logic to other divisions, and accept someone as a genuine champ without beating the number1

He didn't beat the #1 in the division because the #1 fighter wasn't there anymore.

Yes he was, that's why he was Vitali's mandatory for nearly or over a year.

When Froch picked up his current titles Ward was the number 1.

The quote to which this was a response was regarding Brook being ranked above thurman

But I don't agree that Stiverne deserved to be his mandatory. I think he was ranked there due to someone's influence and not on merit

Povetkin was coming off a loss to Wladimir, Pulev was going after the IBF #1 eliminator spot, Fury has been a victim of two fight cancellations and only fought once in 2013 and Adamek was hardly interested for that spot considering his injuries. If any of these guys believed they deserved the spot more than Arreola though would have been vocal about it.

So you honestly think Stiverne and Arreola were genuinely the most desrving to fight for the WBC title?

Ward became the number #1 and lineal champion after winning the Super Six tournament. Still though, the IBF champion in the division was Bute and he didn't participate in the tournament so he doesn't get erased nor does his title lose its value especially when he won it before the tournament started.

Stiverne, yes. Arreola most likely not but still a solid fighter.
