No heavyweight is going to be accepted until they beat Wladimir Klistschko

The only difference is that Klitschko is the undisputed kingpin of the division, while Cotto is heavily disputed and besides his lineal title has very little claim being the best in his division.

true, but golovkin inherits what klitschko already has ONLY if he beats cotto (as it stands)
cotto understands it's meaning, which is why a fighter who has taken on all comers to this point, isn't prepared to do it now he's the man in the division...even though most feel it's a throne he is just keeping warm for somebody else

Well, yes, but Golovkin would still have to face guys like Jacobs and Quillin in order to completely clean the division off. However, nobody would dispute his throne if he was to defeat Cotto.

Klitchko, on the other hand, has already done his job and has a decade of dominance behind him. He has so many titles that nobody even bothers to count them anymore and since Vitali retired, he is introduced as the universally undisputed HW champ of the world. I think that for that status, Golovkin would need to do a bit more than just defeating Cotto.

he needs to beat a good fighter for his title to have any merit. Arreola wasn't a good fighter. he didn't beat anyone to be considered good.

if he beats a Fury, Chisora or a povetkin, then i'd have no problem with him being the WBC Champ.

guys like Jacobs and quillin are 'flavors of the month' - nothing more
the federations will only break up all the belts again if a fighter unifies (fiercely over-rated) because someone's ego is going to be hurt depending which mandatory the champ takes...

cotto's belt has a bloodline going back to Bernard Hopkins, while guys like quillin have the fierce and driven determination of a felix sturm to prove they are genuine world beaters
neither of whom should ever be given the time of day :good

Vitali (#1) fought the consensus #2 HW in Sanders to win the WBC belt and The Ring HW title. Not at all a paper champion.

If Stiverne beats a few more top contenders, but loses to Wlad, he will still be looked at as a good sold contender in this era, which isn't bad at all.
Guys like Tua, Maskaev, and Rahman are not considered all time greats, but they were good, and like Rahman proved, good enough to beat the best fighter of the era if he didn't come 100% fully prepared.
Stiverne is not as good as Wlad, just like Rahman wasn't as good as Lewis, but if Wlad doesn't take him 100% serious you just never know.

i notice him in 2005 on a under card of a klitschko fight, hes been around a while and worked his way up the ranks at slow pace to me. he to me should have had title fights before chris and tomaz i think. but to be legit he has to beat wald. if anyone heavy wants to be legit they have to beat wald. im glad wald has all the belts at least you dont have to chace around champ to champ.
you beat wald you get all of them, well if you pay the fees to all the titles.

Froch is not considered a champion by anybody who knows anything about the sport. He's a title-holder, but NOT the champion.

Vladimir Klitschko is the real heavyweight champion of the world. USTV is trying to hide that fact by boycotting his fights while showing Garcia Vs. Salka.....................Stiverne would have to beat Vlad or Vitali, but Vitali retired, if not, Vitali would have knocked Stiverne out.................Wilder is ranked #1 WBC without fighting anyone ranked at all...........................geeeeee, won why? Want to guess?
