This isn't about who you think or want to win, I'm wondering, what, with so many boxing experts here on ESB...what would each fighter's win be equivalent to, as far as bouts in the past...

Pacquiao win - Hmmm...maybe Leonard over Hagler, although I'd hate to see Pac win controversial, or maybe Roy Jones over John Ruiz.

Cotto win - Floyd Mayweather over JMM...Bernard Hopkins over De La Hoya...wouldn't mean ****...or wouldn't mean much, I should say.

it means immortality for pac. he is charting new territory with a win.
a cotto win would be big but nothing that hasnt been done before.

Not really. The seventh weight class is impressive, but historically Cotto isn't THAT good to justify Manny being THAT special. If Manny beat Mayweather, the best lighter weight guy of the last ten years, at WW, then yes, he's a legend.

This is about right in terms of significance, IMO. With the caveat that Cotto has more chance of beating Manny than Ruiz ever had of beating Jones.

it should be impressive, no one has been able to do it yet.
manny IS the best lighter weight guy of the last ten years and is fighting a tougher fighter than anyone floyd has every been in the ring with.

    Pac - Duran beating Barkley.
They beat a guy who was still top of their game, world champ, possibly HOF, arguably the best in their weight class, in a weight they really dont belong at.

    Cotto - Hopkins beating Tito.
They beat an ATG who has somewhat proven they can fight in that wieght class, however their still naturally smaller.

I'd compare Cotto's win more to Bernard's win over Trinidad. Trinidad was smaller guy coming up but looked like a monster in the fights leading up to this one and was a heavy favorite just like manny is a heavy favorite now despite being largly unproven at the higher weight. Much like Trinidad in the DLH fight, Manny has shown a vunerability to being outboxed and has a controversial win over a slick mover a few divisions down from this fight.

I think that a manny win would be a lot like hearns over hagler

PAc-Duran V Barkley because they starterd at loweweights it's never been done before.Pac started at 106 pounds now he is moving to 145.There's nothing really I can think of that remotely comes close to wha Pac is attempting except Duran.

Cotto- Ortiz vs Flash Elorde. Elorde was the best 130 pounder at the time,he held the belt for 7 years, another Filipino southpaw who went up in weight to fight a bigger Pueto Rican and lossed in 14th Round. Elorde was tough they don't have round 14 these days lol.

The first fight pitted a great little man against a to be great welter. This was before the Hearns fight.

The rematch Duran had proven himself at the higher weight.

No he isn't, and you don't know wht tough is lol.... Dlh was tougher than Cotto, and we'll find out if Cotto is as tough as Torrecampo or Singsurat Saturday. Floyd is better than Pac period, and the only people who think Pac is better than Floyd or fights tougher guys is you and PAc's bandwagon fans ou flaming fat coward:lol:.
