What would Usyk need to do to get inside your top 10 all time heavyweight list?

    D'ohh! But of course.

All the same, I still think that ship likely sailed for Usyk when he decided to spend the bulk of his career at cruiser. But I suppose Usyk may have more years left than I'm guessing, and he could rate somewhere in the vicinty of Holy at heavy. I don't think it's likely, but who knows.

The vast majority of Evander's career was at HW................during a very strong era. Usyk doesn't have that benefit

Beating Fury and Joshua is better than beating Frazier and Norton in my book.

So basically if Usyk loses to Michael Hunter and has a meeting with Jesus in the showers after the fight before retiring for awhile, but comes back to eventually win a title of a mediocre champion while in his mid forties, he should be a lock for top ten. Add in a commentating gig and people will be talking top 5.

Of course, you find a way to bring up Foreman in a thread that has absolutely sfa to do with him.

Get a ****ing life. This is just pathetic at this point.

Beat Fury again then beat 2 top contenders and he is a lock for Top 10 or even 5. He would have better resume than Marciano at HW.

Yeah, could be. The competition for places is fierce there. I don't even have Holy in my top 10 and would have to exclude one of Tyson, Frazier and Foreman.

But let's say he beats Fury again, and then Parker and Zhang and one of the up and coming ones like for example Kabayel and one or two more in the top 10... He will have done a very good job of cleaning out in case. Arguably even better than Tyson did in the 80's and Frazier in the late 60's/early 70's and Foreman in the 70's, and without their losses. That he didn't have all the wins over no hopers that they had early in their careers doesn't hurt him much imo. So why not a top 10 under those circumstances?

Of course, far from certain that his career works out this way.

That was my mistake. He was addressing my question where, for some dumb reason, I had totally forgotten about Holy when asking my question.

Having said that, I tend to believe Usyk's HW ceiling is closer to the Fitz, Gene, Floyd tier than Holyfield. Although I concede he could probably fall somewhere in between Holy and the other 3.

Unless I'm forgetting others in my sleepy state.

Totally agree. I guess I'm assuming that Usyk only has 1 or 2 fights/years left. But what the hell do I know?

I personally don’t rank anyone who is active on an ATG list because their story isn’t complete. I don’t rule out Usyk being top 10, his story simply isn’t over yet although there aren’t likely to be many more chapters.

Not really much evidence for Fury and Joshua being among the best especially around the time they faced Usyk. Both have terrible resumes and Joshua hasn't beaten a clear top ten opponent since Povetkin/Ruiz. Many had Fury losing to Ngannou.

If you duck virtually all your eras top fighters that raises questions about how good you are.

    "Both have terrible resumes"

Joshua has fought virtually everyone around, and didn't duck anybody so I have no idea what the hell you're on about.

Both were the champions of the division, the highest ranked, and consensus number top two of the division.

Feel free to list these fighters who you think are better than Joshua and Fury.

    Hi Buddy.
Might be my age ( prob is ) but I don't fully understand the point you are trying to make, the Taylor Swift intervention didn't help matters, so as much as I would like to engage you in a discussion on the topic, on this occasion reluctantly I am unable to, that said I normally understand and sometimes agree with you opinions.
    stay safe amigo, chat soon.

One poster tried to make the point that Usyk's win over Fury is more impressive than Tunney's two wins over Dempsey. And I'm saying that Tunney's wins over Dempsey rocked the world of sports and still are talked about a century later while Usyk's defeat of Fury, although important to some of us, barely registered with casual sports fans and won't have nearly the same cultural or historical importance.

I don't think anyone would argue that boxing is more popular now than era's past. We all know that Dempsey was champion when the sport was huge and he was bigger than life character. We know that Louis was a hero in a time of war and Ali was a champion during a chaotic social climate.

Uysk will never live up to those guys I just mentioned from a popularity standpoint. The sport simply does not have that crossover appeal and really hasn't since Tyson. With that said, Uysk is an incredible fighter that has been the best at every level of the amateurs, cruiserweight and Heavyweight divisions.

If you think for a second that the 6'1 180 pound Dempsey is a more difficult opponent than the 6'9 250 pound plus Fury then I don't know what else to say to you. You are not talking about boxing, you are talking about historical importance which are two way different things.
