IMO the P4P list should be a living, breathing list that's constantly changing to reflect any given moment in time. I don't agree with people who consider a boxer's entire body of work when placing them on the list. To me, it should measure where they are RIGHT NOW, and go backwards no more than a year or two.

Based on that, all Ward really has to do is beat better opposition in 2014 than Floyd and I would give him the #1 spot. They both have decent options. GGG, Kovalev and Stevenson would put Ward over the top unless Floyd does better than Khan for May. But if Floyd fights Garcia and Alexander, Pacquiao or Bradley, that would solidify his hold at the top spot.

Realistically? Wait for Floyd and Wlad to retire. Then again, I weigh career accomplishments (along with current H2H dominance and recent W-L record) heavier than most. I rank Ward as one of the best of the best H2H, but I'm not going to ignore that Floyd and Wlad are putting up historical accomplishments in their careers and still outclassing guys today. Andre just can't overcome that without putting in the time himself or doing something spectacular. I think he's got the potential, but it's not fair to rank him over the guys who've already got it.

What Andre needs to do, now that the shoulder's healthy, is to just stay active. If he fights, wins, and looks good 3 times in 2014, even if only one is a champion level fighter, it'll help his name value out tremendously.

For Floyd to retire because until that day i don't think Ward will ever be put at number 1 he will be number 1 when floyd retires though, if he moves up and beats Kovalev and Stevenson he would be clearly number 1 behind floyd, people saying for him to fight GGG, GGG is a small MW and hasn't even faced the top MW's yet no need for the Ward fight now doubt he wants it either more money for GGG fighting Martinez, Cotto, Froch ect

If this were true, it would mean that Ward was the most skilled boxer in the game.

And I think most would agree that this isn not the case.

He possesses a number of 'skills' that help him win fights, but they tend towards ugliness. You can't deny that they are effective, but he has a grappling style that shows up in just about all his fights.

IMO, not only is Floyd more skilled (and I'm definitely not a Floyd fan), but Martinez is too. And also Rigondoux. Maybe others.

At any rate, what do you suggest that Ward could do to take over the #1 spot ?

IMO, Floyd has to lose it before Andre can take it.

Perhaps if Floyd retires before Ward suffers his first loss.
