Munroe will want to fight for a World title again this year. If possible he will want home advantage. He is currently ranked WBC No.4, WBO No.13. The European title is vacant but if whoever fights for it Kiko Martinez will need to be in the opposite corner so that is a no go. these are the World Champions WBC - Toshiaki Nishioka WBA - Ryol Li Lee, WBA regular Guillermo Rigondeaux IBF - Steve Molitor WBO - Wilfredo Vasquez Jnr None of these champions are expected to lose there titles in there next fights. Nishioka he has already lost to, and is unlikley to come to the UK for a rematch. Molitor was once a possibilty but he is now working with Top Rank along with Rigondeaux, Vasquez Jnr. Vasquez Jnr could be another in a long line of Puerto Rican stars and a unification with Molitor or Rigondeaux could go along way to building his name. Also theres a possibility of Nonito Donaire coming up and walking into a title fight with either man this year. That leaves another Japanese WBA champion Ryol Li Lee. Lee faces another Japanese fighter at the end on January, then his mandatory will be due between the winner of Nehomar Cermano and a man Munroe has already beat in Victor Terrezas. Cermano will likley win and challenge Lee in Japan before the Summer. Thats leaves the winner finally free for later in the year. Theres various fighters ranked by the WBA but 3 in paticular standout. Scott Quigg - Currently the WBA international champion. Its unlikley his team would take a fight with Munroe in 2011. Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym - Would be a big fight. All action fighter well known to the British fans but a very tough ask. Maybe to risky and expensive to get him over. Ricardo Cordoba - Like Poonsawat he is all action, known to fans and a tough fight. But perhaps slightly easiar that Poonsawat. This may be the way to go. Cordoba though has allot of options and could be in for a big fight with Juanma Lopez in April which would rule him out. For me I would go with getting him out in March as chief support to Jason Booth vs Jamie Arthur for the British and Commonwealth titles. Get him agaisnt one of these guys in a 10 rounder thats ranked by the WBA. These 3 are all undefeated so can be built up as big fights and are top 10 with the WBA. Maybe to much of a risk for the first fight back for Maloney. Robert Marroquin Jenifel Vicente Ramon Maas Also ranked by the WBA so better for a comback. Home advantage against nishioka would make no difference, munroe still loses. IMO, he's going to need a couple of cracks at a title, and get someone at the right time. For me, in the division he's in, he lacks a little bit of hand speed, and power. I think this will always go against him
tend to agree with this. as long as he is not gettng knocked out or schooled don't have a problem with him getting 2-3 more shots at a world title.
Yeah, I dint want to see him taking too much unnecessary punishment. He was shipping quite a lot against nishioka, especially to the body. However, he didn't disgrace himself, and showed with a bit more experience at that level he could possibly learn to cope with any disadvantages he has
No point seeing him against Nishioka again, I like Munroe but Nishioka's just too good. Molitor's very beatable but it's unlikely he'd come over again. I expect he'll fight a sof touch and then try for another title, but I think Lee and Vasquez jr would beat him and neither would be too willing to come to the UK to do it.
Its tough to see a way in for Rendall with the current way things are and i can only see it getting harder. Molitor wont hold onto his title much longer he doesnt stand a chance in a rematch with Nishioka and he wont get a crack with any of the Top Rank fighters
Throw him in with a descent euro level boxer and then put him in against Molitor, if he wins he gets a world title and more paydays, if not then he prob aint gonna make it at world level. I reckon molitors there for the taking, hes a good boxer but hes took a step back in recent years
i spoke to molitor before the booth fight and he said he would be happy to come back and box in England again and even named Munroe as a potential opponent over here
I would do absolutely everything to get him in with Molitor. Quigg and Booth are 10 and 11 with the IBF so they would help with his ratings but I can't imagine Quigg's team would fancy it. Just read about the Top Rank thing... I'm out of ideas now
