I have a lot of respect for Mayweather esp. him being a champ in 5 different divisions if im not mistaken... but I have been thinking would it be more of a challenge for him unifying all major belts at this moment at 147 or what he has done by capturing and being a champ at 5 different weight divisions... At this moment I feel though him unifying all major belts at 147 would be his biggest challenge... What do you guys think?
Mayweather has done enough to retire with a very good record. However, sticking around one division and unifying the belts would send him over the top. I can't see him taking William's belt though. Maybe if he went down to 140 though. Thing with Mayweather is the guy is up and down all over the place so it is hard to identify him as any one division. More than likely he will drop to 140 to fight Pacman if he gets by Marquez.
good post... lets say he decides to dedicate time just to unify the 147 division... by him conquering that division and all major belts help him quiet many critics not just the avg. boxing fan but professional analyst and historians and finally give him credit for being one of the best and ranking him one of the atg...
yeah theres so much talent in the ww division that i'd like to see him try and clear it. i have a funny feeling he won't though.
As much as I like him, he won't. And this is why Floyd's legacy will always be hard to establish. Harder than DLH, Mosley, or Hatton. He has to stop at one division and claim it as his legacy otherwise people will say he only fought who he knew he could win at each division. Floyd is definately most difficult to judge because no one knows what the hell he's doing.
FLoyd needs to unify. Forget moving up because he's done enough of that, he can achieve greatness by being the undisputed champ in this very deep wlterweight division. Floyd definitely doesn't need to move up any higher to prove his greatness.
to me if he wants to be without a doubt the best p4p ATG he wins a belt at 160 or maybe even higher. I'm not saying he'll do that or he should...i just am answering the OP's question...there's a saying that after 20 pounds...boxing skill cannot overcome the weight disparity...at least that is what i'm told. I want to see him win someone like pavlik at 160. If he beats pavlik at 160, which he won't, but if he does, i highly doubt even PBF haters can dispute that he is truly THE p4p ATG
Funny thing is, I'm not a Floyd fan, and I am a Pavlik fan, but I think that with a good weight training coach like Shilstone, Floyd could properly bulk up for a 160 fight and actually beat Pavlik if he could avoid getting hit with too many solid shots.
williams and cotto are flyods most meaningfull fights.. forrest or dzindurek if he moves up. with that i am expecting a dlh 2 /mayorga or mosely to take place instead
