What would you have done (if this happened at your boxing gym)?

I always go outside to get my rope skipping in to get a little sun. . .

I trust everybody at my gym not to steal, so I always just leave my gloves chilling on the table. . . But there was a new group of guys today who I had never met, nor seen there before. . .

When I get back in from skipping, I notice my gloves are not on the table, so I start looking around. I see them sitting next to the ring where all those guys were doing mitt work in. . . I notice there is also an identical pair to mine sitting near them.

I ask the guys which pair is theirs, because oen pair is mine, and they don't know what to say at first, until one says "uhh, uhh, these are mine because there a little bit different htan yours; yours have the grey thumb." (when clearly they both had grey thumbs). . . So I didnt say anything, and just said "aight cool thanks." and took my gloves, and went home.

I mean, I would have NO PROBLEM letting somebody use my gloves if htey just asked me first - especially some dude I've never met. Even though it's kind of grimey (and I don't know who would want to use my gloves cause htey stink like ****), I still am nice enough to let them. . Everybody knows I'm a nice guy there - always giving people rides home, letting them borrow my jump rope, perfect pushups, etc. Even buy some of the little kids gatorade and ****. . . But I kind of came off as a dick to them because I juts couldn't believe somebody would have the nerve to use a pair of gloves that wasn't theirs.

I would have made it clear what gloves I thought were mine and also asked why they weren't where they were in the first place, then took it from there.

So it's not just me - it is rude as hell to do that, yes?

I'm still fairly new to the boxing gym scene (been there for about a year), but I even overheard one of the older guys who I look up to there say to a kid one time "nah, that ain't yours, don't touch that" (taking about somebody else's gloves).

I'm almost positice the ones they said were mine, because they had yellow lint stuck to the elastic (I have yellow handwraps). . .

I didn't want to make too big of a deal about it, but I don't know, just rubbed me wrong. . .

Like I said, if they would have asked? I'd have let htem use 'em all day - hell, prolly let them use them after I left, and just told them to leave 'em with coach when they were finished.

Put your name on the inside of the gloves. I wouldn't share my gear, that's just me, I don't want to wear someone's sweaty stinky gear nor do I want them to use mine. Just how it is, you may have came across as a dick but you can neutralize this later. No biggie, I've had all kinds of stuff stolen from me because I left it laying around, Lesson learned.

It was rude, but you handled yourself well. You just made it clear they were yours and didn't stir up any confrontation.

Do you think it's possible they thought they were free to use? Most gyms have a kind of "stock" pool of shitty gloves and whatnot to use, and maybe they thought those laying around were free to use, then were nervous when they realized they could be yours.

You did the right thing. I would have let them know that my glove are not community property and the gym policy is to always check before using something.

Plus it is gross. I never wear another man's gloves, headphones, swim trunks, or underwear. Personal rules.

yeah man it's definitely rude. it's a fundamental lesson that people learn very early on, do not take what is not yours without asking.

I bet he picked them up thinking that they were his than realized they weren't and never moved them back. I've done that before but I told the individual and even hunted him down to tell him.

You know what, I think they might have thought this. . . Although my gloves are clearly better than the shitty stock gloves my gym has. . .

They are the everlast protex (bag gloves), and my sparring gloves are Clitoris's.

I'd of told them to get the **** out of my gym.

I'm there to teach more than Boxing, morals and decency. Keys to success in life. They wouldn't be welcome.
