Separate of the whole floyd mayweather situation I'm curious why Manny would have signed an extension with top rank. I mean he pretty much cleaned out the entire top rank stable. It would have been nice to see him set up some fights with GB and other fighters.

I wonder if manny did this because he has a good relationship with Arum or did maybe Arum give him a whole bunch of money as a bonus. I think years down the line there will be books about this whole situation.

I can't think of anyone on Top Rank worth fighting. Everyone they've mentioned as a possible opponent since the extension is 130-140 lbs.

that's what I'm saying. I would think being a free agent ala cotto would have been the move for pacquiao. Freedom to fight who you want and call the shots along the way but I'm not sure what may have been going on for Pac to sign that extension.

He's at the end of his career, and say what you want about Arum but he did make Pac a star.

I get it in a way. It's familiar, it's why you sometimes stay in a relationship longer than you should, because it's a cold world out there and you've been with this person for a while. Sometimes that next step on your own is scary/new/different.

Bull****. Bradley can't draw flies and Pac is a recognised ppv star. So it not the same reason.

There is no sensible reason why pac at this stage of his career is not a free agent yet floyd and cotto are.

I think bradley DEFINITELY would have been better somewhere else. Pac less so because he gets whatever he wants but Bradley is going life and death with no names and getting minimal love for it.

He made 15m over 3 fights with p4pers. He wouldnt have made that in 5 years elsewhere. Just made 2m vs a no name. You're just clueless.

Top Rank is not exclusive to making fights within their stable. They work with all promotional outfits, including GBP. Haymon is the one that has cornered his stable of "managed" fighters into fighting amongst themselves on one network.

Signing an extension with one of the top promoters in the industry is really nothing to question. Pacquiao is probably satisfied with how all the logistics lay out and his payment at the end of the day. If he becomes a free agent, he would have to consider paying for promotional responsibilities on his own and in the end, that could cost more than having them take a percentage of your purse.

I'd imagine there's a significant number of reasons.

    1) Obviously, the money. With Golden Boy, they have Alvarez and (had) Mayweather. With Top Rank, he is the undisputed head of their stable. He's made $20 million for fights in China, and without the tax obligation of fighting in Macau he is doing well.

    2) Loyalty. Top Rank helped turn Pacquiao into the global icon he is today.

    3) Flexibility. Up until the last few months, Golden Boy would only do business in house. Top Rank is able to work with other promoters, like Banner and Main Events, to make fights. Algieri and Provodnikov, contrary to popular belief, are not signed to Arum.

Besides going with Golden Boy or some other upstart like RocNation, where else is Pac going to go? He had MP Promotions, but needs an established organization to promote events.

If Roach knows that Pacquiao was consuming Magic Shakes, I'm sure the man that controls Pacquiao's career (Bob Father) knows just as much if not more shady things Pacquiao has been involved in.

For a few years I've sensed Arum is blackmailing Pacquiao. The controversial loss to Bradley and Pacquiao resigning proves that Arum has some kind of CONTROL over Pacquiao's business decisions. Even the firing of VisionQuest was completely shady.

I believe that if Pacquiao and Arum have a fall out, Pacquiao's reputation and credibility would be destroyed by "leaked information". FFS Roach already admitted Pacquiao juices.

Pacquiao has a busy life outside of boxing. It suits his lifestyle to delegate the promotional responsibilities and keep things simple for himself. Cotto and Mayweather have no lives or significance outside of their boxing careers.

Furthermore, Top Rank is able to get Pacquiao fights with Golden Boy fighters now. So Pacquiao's options are unlimited aside from Mayweather. And to be honest, Pacquiao doesn't really need Mayweather for money or for legacy. He'll always be remembered as the greater fighter of the two, and there will always be speculation that Mayweather was better but by no means greater.
