Personally, I'd like to see him take off most of whats left of the year, and come back against a David Diaz type opponent. In other woods someone that isn't garbage, but will keep him sharp.

    Thoughts?

Retirement. Dude's brain is going to be a puddle of goop if he stays in the sport.

I dunno, Gatti was doing quite well after all his wars, so far I don't think Katsidis has endured half of what Gatti did. Hopefully in my selfishness in wanting to see a few more Katsidis fights, he will maintain his health.

Not that I want see Mike get hit with the shots he's been getting hit with for much longer though.

I'm really hoping Mike can pick up a full version of a title before he calls it quits.

I have a great deal of respect for Katsidis. He's done the best with the talent he has. He turned himself from a face-first brawler type, to an aggressor with more polished technique. He's tightened up his guard, added a little bit of head movement, and learned to shorten up his punchers. Basically, he turned himself from a street fighter to a real boxer.

Having said that, the poor ******* has still taken an awesome amount of punishment from much superior fighters, and unlike a Gatti type, he isn't winning any of those wars. Retirment would be nice, but we all kno he won't be doing that anytime soon, so I would agree that a little bit of time off followed by a couple of soft touches would be the best course of action.

If all goes well after that, then maybe he can try for one more shot at a title. I'm just hoping that if he does lose again he won't end up an unconscious heap on the canvas because that would be the last thing he needs, another beating.

    Right on post. :good

Especially about the Gatti reference. It would be alot different if Katsidis could pull out the spoils of war, with a knockout after going through hell to get it (though he has been painfully close a few times), just like Gatti did so well.

From the looks of this face the other night, it still looks like he's a "face first" fighter. His head had to look like a watermelon the next day the way he was swelling up during the fight.

What I'd like to see is him learn how to block a punch with something other than his face. How's that old saying go????

"I had him right where he wanted me and he'd have lost that fight if it went a few more rounds due to broken hands from hitting my face!!"

Retirement. I like the guy. He has more heart than is good for him. Hopefully he's made enough money to live comfortably for the rest of his days. No glory is worth brain damage.

Spend some time off with his family and come back maybe at 140, i think he still has it in him to collect a proper belt

I have no time to explain boxing 101 to someone who has never stepped into a boxing gym in their entire useless life.

^ This and the fact that Katsidis doesn't seem to have a punch big enough to turn a fight around for him. He may have Gatti's courage, heart, and determination, but sadly it doesn't seem that he has the power that Gatti had.

Another downside for him is that he is a boxer who happens to be in one of the better eras for his weight class, and those that are 5-10lbs north and south of his division. I honestly don't see him winning a championship at this point. If he does fight again, I just hope his manager puts him there with a feather fisted fighter so he can go out on a winning note.

He just lacks the power of an Arturo Gatti. Gatti could put a guy down and out with just one punch from either hand. Katsisid is a prety good puncher, but he doesn't quite have that fight ending power.

Plus, it doesn't help that he's faced nothing but world class opposition the last couple of years; Diaz, Casamayor, Guerrero, and the great Juan Manuel Marquez. Even Gatti himself would have problems winning against such a star-studded lineup.

If he had an 'easy' fight, i wouldn't complain.
