You mean match the overrated figher vs the Underrated one?
I think thats an even matchup.. Diaz style doesnt look fluid or impressive. But bottom line he is a very capable fighter.. Last fight i saw of his he gave Soto a good tussle and made it close going into the late rounds.

Katsidis is more fun to watch and has the equalizer (power t)hat Diaz doesn't.. But when it comes down to it and you throw in the intangible, toughness,Experience they are on par and this is no tuneup for Katsidis but a realf fight.

But i think Kats should take a little time off.. Comeback ko a tomato can in australia........... Them make a big all aussie matchup with Lenny Zappavignia.. the guy who just lost to Vasquez...

This would be big down under.. And guarranteed to produce fireworks. Both are flawed , but very exciting punchers... This would be like a make or break fight. Winner would be back as a threat and top contender.... And the loser falls out the rankings to gate keeper status.

I hope this kid gets what he wants, I like the guy a LOT, humble as they come and sound as a pound. Some fighters are too brave and he might be one of em.

Usually the effects of boxing doesnt hit you until you get older, gatti was still in his 30's when he retired. i bet when he got older into maybe is 50's or 60's he would of have suffered a lot of "after-boxing" trauma

I agree with you. I was going to mention the fact that we didn't get to see Gatti older.

But there a plenty of guys that went through less than Gatti, and were already showing it at Gatti's age at least.

    Retirement.

Katsidis is one of my fav fighters of all time. I have nothing but love and respect for him and everything hes brought to us as fans.

And I think that is one of the reasons I feel so strongly about wanting him to retire before he is damaged goods not as a boxer, but as a human in everyday life.

There is no magic number for how many beatings one can take like the very ones Katsidis has taken in his career. And normally, if a fighter has a lot to gain by continuing, be it he is in the mix to still become a champion, to write a legacy for himself, or to make big money in big fights..... then I understand taking beatings to a certain extent. But I dont see any of this for Kats at this point. I see a guy who will continue to be fed to guys who overmatch him. And I simply would rather see him retire then to continue to take this kind of abuse.

I realise, I have a tendency to be 'over protective' when it comes to fighters, but, in retrospect, I have never been wrong about a fighters fate when Ive called for their retirement.

I said Vargas should retire after he fought Castillejo.... people called me crazy. Vargas fought on and what happened? Did he gain anything? No.... instead, he got stopped against mosley once, then brutally in a rematch, then beat by Mayorga in a fight that showed Vargas to look so bad that it was sad almost. Nothing but pointless punishment and more losses on his record for people to pick at.

I said Mayorga should retire after the Mosley fight, I suppose its not over for him, I guess if he can beat Alvarez, then he will have proved me wrong.... but so far, all hes done is cop a beating from Cotto in a fight he didnt see the finish to, against a fighter IMO he would have beaten in his prime. And if Saul lays a beating on him, I will be even more right about Mayorgas fate.

I dont know, Im just not a fan of my fav fighters just taking beatings for no reason once they are past their best.

I said Gatti should retire after the Mayweather fight (not just because of the Mayweather fight, but because of his fight also with Leija in which I think he looked bad), of course people said oh it was just mayweather, gatti should hang in there and keep fighting. He did, and all that he got was beatings and stoppage losses until he was retired in a sad fight against Gomez.

Yes, guys like Morales are special cases.... a fighter much past it, who ignores calls of retirement and are able to put on legendary performences out of nowhere like he did against Maidana..... but Morales is an ATG, and im not going to wish Katsidis stay around getting hammered on just to hope that he can somehow pull out a miracoulas performence one of these days.

Boxing is great, and I love it with all my heart, but its not the be all end all of life. And the damage that he will continue to take if he stays in here fighting top level opposition, that just doesnt go away when HBO ends its broadcasts.

Id love to see Katsidis have a farewell fight against a beatable opponent in front of his people and fans, and ride off with a win in a career he can be proud of and enjoy the next stage of his life.

Now, if he could stay in boxing just fighting peer type opponents. Guys that he can have good fights with, then Im all for it. He is a warrior and I expect nothing less then for him to want to continue fighting and making a living doing what he loves and is ment for. Unfortunately, I feel Katsidis is at that stage where he is a big enough name that they will continue to cycle him through top tier fighters time and time again until he is spent.

But, at the end of the day, Katsidis is a warrior, one of the purest kinds. And I have no doubt he wants, and will, continue to fight. And, regardless of all that I have said, if he continues to fight, I will continue to be a fan of his. And if he chooses to continue, I would love for him to prove me wrong and win a big one.

    Just imo.

    Good **** Kirk.

I don't think Kats has been fed to fighters yet, but I too fear he might be, and if that happens, I'd be outraged, and it would be very sad.

Katsidis seems like a smart guy, and will hang them up when he knows he can no longer perform. Hopefully he would know when he officially becomes the "opponent" and will stop. Some could argue he was the "opponent" agaisnt Guerrero, but he sure as **** made sure Robert wasn't there for a walk over when he started landing those body shots around the 8th.

As you stated, most of us know, Kats wont be ready to hang them up yet, but after his rest a fight back home would be great, and honestly I don't care if he does fight a tomato can, he does deserves a easy touch.

I hope to God Michael has done well with his money, and invested wisely enough to never NEED to continue fighting for anything other than the love for it. As I've stated I don't think he should stay in too much longer but like you, I will root for him any time he steps in the ring, kind of like Mayorga.

I absolutely do NOT want to see Katsidis leave boxing like Gatti did, against a much lesser opponent whom he would've massacred in his prime, and pray it doesn't come to that.

Time will obviously tell, and hopefully Katsidis takes a nice long holiday before any talks of him stepping in the ring again happen again either way.

I don't care to see him against a top guy again unless he earns it, by beating one or two mid level contenders. Katsidis will always get the sh!t beat out of him by top level guys. He is like the new Arturo Gatti, in that many people find it exciting watching him get his arse kicked.

You're making a pretty big assumption there. I'll stick by what I said and to make it really clear, I believe Katsidis will not be around in about 2 more years of getting his head pounded unless he develops some type of defense to prevent this from happening. He's lost 4 of his last 8 fights, 2 by stoppage and 2 by decision. Not exactly stuff long term fighters are made of.

So take you arrogant attitude, stick it where the sun don't shine and quit making assumptions about people you don't know.

Gatti accomplished alot more and won some big fights... Katsidis has provided us with some good fights, and kid has alot of heart and a big punch. One of the most likeable guys in boxing.... But id say he has a ways to go before calling him the new Gatti. Im guessing you just saw the end of Gattis career when he was loosing all the time, and not the one winning titles and beating other champs or former champs.
