Agreed about Sanders rematch scenario. Tho i don't think the brewster rematch is relevant to the discussion (wlad got demolished in sanders 1 whereas vs brewster, wlad was destroying LB worse than the rematch before one of the most bizarre sights in boxing). Agreed that Wlad had polished his style sufficiently by 06 and Sanders had slid far enough where Wlad definitely takes it
Then why did Lennox Lewis get two rematches against fighters who nearly decapitated him in their first fights???:huh
I believe the current edition of Wlad would keep Sanders at bay with his jab and ultimately stop, with the help of Sanders's questionable stamina, any version of the hardpunching South African.
Did Bert Cooper jab like Wlad?? Sanders took some big shots from Cooper while draped on the ropes that fight as well, no?
Wlad had an rematch option in the contract. Universum would however not have anything to do with Sanders again. So they made a deal with Don King who promoted Brewster who at the time was no.1 challenger. Sanders would have to face Brewster before fighting anybody else. The purseoffer was remarkeably low, with the intent to either have Sanders vacate the title or lose it against iron chinned Brewster who they thought was a lot easier opponent than Sanders. In the mean time Vitali was the no.1 challenger for the wbc belt which Lennox had abandoned in february 04. Universum who had the rights to Sanders next 4 fights, somehow pursuaded wbc to make Sanders the no.2 challenger, so he could face Vitali for the vacated belt. That way they would control the WBC belt who ever would win it. Thats the way it all happened, regarding the rematch, Immediately after the loss, wlad said he would fight Sanders in an immediate rematch. Then he suddenly got silent, and he never mentioned the possibility again...
