I really thought they used 8oz gloves.

 

Who knows, the change in gloves could have set off a chain of events that drastically altered the fight's outcome. Like Ortiz could have turned up drunk halfway through round 8 and demanded a rematch!

In all seriousness the fight would still have gone floyd's way, maybe give or take a round.

 

Floyd by KO. Why did you think that the suppose to be bigger and stronger and heavy puncher wanted bigger gloves? Floyd was punishing him all night but Cotto close his defense, something that affects his offense but keep him alive. Floyd has so much ability that he landed punches that nobody else could pick around cotto defense, that punches were not in the chin and some hurt cotto. How many punches Floyd connect to cotto chin? with 8 oz gloves the thing would be much more different and the left had would land much earlier and he will punish cotto at will opening his defense. It probably be a ko win, floyd almost ko him in the 12 rounds, what you will think that will happen if he punish him more?

 

I think Floyd wins by stoppage without those pillows on his hands

 

10 oz gloves are a bit wider/thicker so you have to take that into consideration since Cotto used them like a Roman used his shield. They should just stick with 8oz gloves (or less) for All fighters.
A little thinner gloves and maybe Floyd can use his Jab and Straight-right for more effect instead of having to loop his punches and use the uppercuts. A little more speed and power for Floyd as well.

For Cotto: a bit more effect for his power punches to the body.

 

It's clear the bigger gloves benefited Cotto. Cotto's team requested to leave the 10oz. gloves in place for the fight @ 154, and even cited their reason as to "help with protection" (which was smart).

Those looping rights that Mayweather was landing right on Cotto's temple in the first few rounds would've cut and swelled up faster. Mayweather would've bee able to sneaked straight rights through the guard easier. Floyd probably would've picked up a bit more swelling himself, but I think he would've gotten Cotto outta there.

 

Each fighter would have benefited from the gloves and the fans as well.
