Weight drained, completely shot and mentally beat before the fight.

    But you already knew that

Those gloves really benefited Cotto. I think Floyd would have landed more if they used 8oz. Floyd probably would have stopped him.

Then why didn't Cotto agree? He was willing to go with 10oz Gloves even if Mayweather got 8oz ones and the commission stopped it.

Mayweather would'nt have been as aggressive and been more alert on defense, but the smaller gloves benefit quicker, faster, and more sharp shooting fighters.

For as many flush shots that Mayweather landed on Cotto's face, Cotto's face would have been shredded had he been on the recieving end of 8oz gloves.

Cotto did his homework on this one folks, which is why he decided he wanted the 10oz gloves!:deal

Floyd would have stopped him for sure, Cotto was there for the taking a couple times but Floyd couldn't get straights through those pillows in fron of Cotto's face. the lead right would've killed Cotto with 8oz glozes....right through the guard.

Both Cotto and Mayweather end the fight with a little more facial damage.

I think the result is still the same though. Mayweather was probably more aggressive knowing those 10 oz gloves protected his hands. He's known to have brittle hands. As for Cotto, he would have been able to hit Mayweather harder, but Mayweather would have been able to hit him harder, as well as possibly get through his guard a bit more.

It's not like Mayweather with 8 oz gloves would have been ultra aggressive offensive machine. In fact, his punch output would probably have been around his usual level (400-450 punches or so). He'd probably land about the same amount as he did in the actual fight where he threw like 679 and landed 180. Cotto threw something like 500 and landed like 105.

I think the 10 oz gloves made Mayweather throw more to get his usual number of connects in, both because his hands were more protected and because Cotto's defense was good in that fight. I doubt Mayweather with 8 oz gloves throws with the same frequency as he did in the Cotto fight, because Cotto would be hitting him back harder, and Mayweather's own hands would be less protected.

I don't think the gloves made much of a difference. Mayweather respected Cotto's power. If he didn't, he'd have bumrushed him and tried to go for the kill when he managed to wobble Cotto in the beginning of the 12th round. But, as is his style, Mayweather didn't want to take an undue risk and walk into anything. Besides, Mayweather himself probably knew that Cotto wasn't hurt enough to try and finish (same with Marquez; it's not Mayweather's style to try and get a KO unless the opportunity to do so is plainly and obviously there, as it was against Ortiz or Hatton for instance.)
