Seeing a young and upcoming jr. middleweight Roy Jones Jr. was pretty amazing for me. Watching him in the olympics and then being taken to one of his earliest fights at the Paramount Theatre as a youngin was a great experience. Too much speed and I remember being mesmerized by his rythem and stance that made him look like he was about to flap his wings and fly away.

Probably not the kind of story you were looking for but Roy was the greatest I've ever seen in person.

I have 3 great thrills seeing youngish Ray Robinson demolish a tough Jimmy mcDaniels
in spectacular fashion in 1945,The crowd was buzzing.
2-Watching the amazing prime Willie Pep toy with lightweight Allie Stolz at MSG.
3 Watching underdog Rocky Graziano come from behind to flatten a rising sensation
    Billy Arnold,MSG 1945.
4-Watcing Ray Robinson with a badly cut eye, unleash a do or die attack to ko Randy Turpin
    at the Polo Grounds.
5-Being at the FOC,and watching my favorite ,Joe Frazier whip Ali at MSG, 1971..
These were enough thrills to last a lifetime for me. And I love to watch Marcos Maidana..

for me, it was going to see Duran for the first time in Eire vs. Bizarro. I saw Duran live 4 times, with the last being the great Moore fight in '83. Duran was DURAN in Eire and was awe-inspiring. Also seeing Duran-Viruet in Philly with the great and I mean great Farnklin-Douglas shootout on the undercard. Also, the late great "BBBBAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDDD"""" Bennie come up from the canvas to KO Gutierrez in 2 in the beginning of the 70s. Also, of course, mt excitement himself, all theose Frank "The Animal" Fletcher fights I went to in A.C. Great memories and super exciting waiting to go to the fights. How is that for ya' John?:goodFighters fought often back then and you had a lot of chances to see great fights and fighters. Not like today. I can't think of a single fight now that I wish would happen And 12 rd. championships are demeaning and take all the excitement away for me. Arguello said it best. "Any fighter can go 12, but only special ones can be great at 15." BBBTW John, I recently got three books, -the best articales of Jimmy Cannon (my fav. ever), Paul Galico's Farewell to Sport and Damon Runyons autbio of sports in the 20's and 30s. And a bio of Red Smith. They don't make sports writers like these guys anymore. I collect books w/ old columns and have others by Jim Murray and Grantland Rice and Sy Burick. I wish these kids on the internet could read these books to discover why Dempsey is held out as the best by these writers. He was not voted the best fighter of the first half of the 20th centuiry for nothing. The same thing is beginning to happen to Ali now. Time marches on and the past is considered inferior. Tell writers from then that Benny Leonard is looked on w/ scorn and they would think you were insane. (And they would be right for thinking that by the way). Have a good Spring friend and may the Lord bless ya'

To watch a fight between George Foreman of the 70s and Evander Holyfield would be my best fight to see.

Since I'm from N.Y., N, I'll have to confine it to fights in the tri-state area.

For Louis: (Aside from the highlight of my young life training at Stillman's Gym. Louis backed into me hitting the heavy bag 'n apologized.

Lee Savold in the ol' Garden
Jersey Joe Walcott in '48 at Yankee Stadium
    Tami Mauriello in Yankee Stadium
'n Joe's lackluster KO of Billy Conn in the return at Yankee Stadium

    SRR:

    Georgie Abrams at MSG
    Gene Buffalo in Wilkes Barre
    Steve Belloise at Yankee Stadium
    Jose Basora at Scranton
    Sugar Costner Convention Hall Philly
Kid Gavilan in '49 in Philly
Tommy Bell in '46 at the ol' Garden
Randy Turpin in the return bout at the Polo Grounds
    Basilio in Yankee Stadium
    Maxim in Yankee Stadium
