Hopkins beat the last of King`s fighters that fought for a title, he never had a leading contender in his stable ever again, but when did the rot really set in on King`s reign as the top promoter in boxing?

Hopkins was a brilliant fighter, but Hopkins is delusional if he thinks he put Don King out of business. Don king started being less involved in the boxing business after his wife died several years before Hopkins even fought Cloud.

I think king’s age is what steadily phased him out.

Obviously Hopkins didn't put King out of business.

King was a huge black mark on boxing though. Despicable character.

im not suggesting he was, nor did you mention anything about a big name. Your post said Hopkins beat the last of Kings fighters and he never had a leading contender again. Im merely pointing out that he had a heavyweight title holder after this, albiet briefly

You are correct. Wilder beat him for his title.

I remember in the 1980's, the Don King network that televised boxing matches on cable.

Yes, Don King, easy too follow the much trod line, that he was a shyster, double dealing, low down thieving rascal, as he most certainly was, in spades, and that he was all about self gain, which is true, thing is I remember a line at the court case, when a lot of fighters were taking him to to task, about being short changed, mismanaged, etc, Kings lawyer asked each of the fighters, in turn tell the court what was the biggest purses they ever received in their careers ( most were the top 3/4 purses they had been paid) and who had paid them .

Ah well they said, ( all of them ) it was the man sitting in the dock, Don King....
Now not for a moment am I defending King, BUT all the fighters were indeed paid more by King than they had previously earned at any time in their career. Food for thought, No ?

King earned more from Tyson and Ali than he could evder earn with fighters that lacked their charisma, the rumble in the jungle put King on the map, he owes his career to Ali.
