Whats a bigger asset, to be technically gifted, or physically gifted? can the best technical fighter be more effective than a fighter with the most athleticism, or vise versa.

Normally it should be physically, because you can be trained in technic but you can't "heal" a glass jaw, a featherfist or total lack of physical assets.

    bernard hopkins vs roy jones

    floyd mayweather vs zab judah

depends on the fighters themselves i think, every situation is going to be different. many will say they'd prefer technical prowess but the very best usually had both. technical prowess alone will not get you all the way, as you can be overwhelmed. atheleticism will only win you fights until you find someone MORE athletic or your abilities fade

its better to be physically gifted because you can work on your technique. Alot of physical attributes (like handspeed or height) are impossible or almost impossible to improve.

A good mix of both is always best i.e. Floyd and Wlad Klit.

However if its between a not very athletic guy with great technique vs an athletic guy with poor technique then i would pick the former...unless of course we are talking about a prime RJJ.

    This.

To be technically sound is a more important overall attribute than athleticism, but in terms of a bigger gift? Athleticism, for the reasons above.

Think of it like a 80 year old 95lbs granny with 50 years of some martial arts under her belt. She may still have all the technical skills, but she still gets mugged by a 200lbs dude if she wonders around some getto in the middle of the night.

Good point. I guess the only thing with that, is that the fighters who are so physically gifted dont refine their technique until their athleticism goes, which, is evident in Roy Jones's case, its not so easy to pick up when your used to doing something different, also, look at Mike Tyson.

I thought it was a question if you had only one to choose from.

    size
    speed
    strentgh
    power
    techniuque etc.

    In that case it varies.

    In boxing, technique.

You fight in weight classes so the benefit of size in minimized.
