I'd possibly put Olympic gold over winning one of the three belts. But, being undisputed champion with all three belts is the pretty much the best you can achieve in boxing overall as a current boxer unless you're the number 1 P4P man.
Floyd Mayweather, Roy Jones Jr, Savon and Joe Joyce were blatently robbed of a gold medal. Anthony Joshua is not a gold medal olympian, he's a bum who got it gifted to him by corrupt powers, it has no merit or value. both are high goals for boxers.
It depends on the viewpoint of where you're from imo. There's old interviews of Loma where he regards his gold wins as the highest point of his boxing career. Personally, I think a world championship is the peak, as pro boxing is the peak in terms of skill and historicity of boxing itself. Winning a title makes you a part of that
If we are talking boxing champion, not a belt holder, but the number 1 in the division? I'm going world champion I know the Olympics is every 4 years and there are less chances. But a 12 round fight is more grueling than the amateurs I'd rather be the best pro than an Olympic champion
Depends what your goals are... And where you're from. A pro champion makes a lot more money. In some countries, an Olympic gold might get you more fame and prestige. There have been champs who failed to win gold and gold medallists who failed to make much impact as pro's.
For me the Olympics means more if it's the highest standard, but everyone knows professional boxing is much tougher. My sport is Judo and the highest honour is Olympic gold, unless you cross over to mma
The olympic cycle just doesn't work out for some, and others miss out because of a competitive field. That shouldn't be counted against a fighters legacy, so I'd go belts
Olympic is more corrupt than professional boxing. RJJ was daylight robbery and not a damn thing was done about it. It is even on the chopping blocks of events to be removed from the Olympic
There is only one Olympic champion per weight class in the Olympics not four, regular champions and interim champions. You don't get to weight bully leprechauns, pick off a weak champion, or navigate your path on route to winning gold by facing stylistically favourable match ups You actually have to travel providing the Olympics aren't being held in your home country that particular year You don't get to stack the deck with a home ref and a full set of home judges either. In you don't get a say in wangling any kind of advantage in your favour at the negotiating table Professional boxing is corrupt as hell too
World champion and it’s not even close. I don’t follow the amateurs too much, but I’ve seen a lot of Olympic fighters where the winner just pitty patted his way to victory. A pro boxing champion actually has to prove himself for 12 rounds in a much more demanding way.
